I don't know how long Grace has been my friend. For all I know, I knew her every since I was born. I remembered we did everything together. There was never a picture I had where she wasn't in it. We learned how to ride a bike together. There were countless sleepovers where we would fight over the blankets when it wss cold. I remembered the nights where she would just appear at my house with red eyes in her pajamas because something was wrong. All the nights we would spend laughing at people and just hanging around. We used to tell each other everything.
Not anymore.
To think the person I thought was my best friend was actually my enemy was heart breaking. I felt everything was a lie as I watched her go around in a circle with her eyes closed. It explained why she avoided Daniel now that I think about it. She was never around when he was. It also explained how she came out of nowhere when Koli left. I can't even say I saw this coming because I didn't.
"Where do you think you're going?" I stopped as Rebecca smirked at me. There was something wrong with her. It didn't click until her eyes started to glow.
"Oh no not you too," I said. I didn't think Rebecca was always one of them but it now explained why she went missing. I just thought it was because of the break up but I was wrong.
"You stole my boyfriend from me. You stole everything from me and now you're finally going to get what you deserve."
"Are you serious? What else did I steal from you?" I didn't have time for her. My brother, the only normal person I had left, was dying right in front of me. "What person deserves having their brother die, their best friend being a Nemesis and the world basically ending? Please get out of my way so I can save him." I was hysterical as I tried to push past her.
She held out her hand and I went flying through the sky and landed hard on my back. There was a ringing in my ear as I dazily looked around. I noticed Rebecca hunched over and soon her scream filled the air. I forgot my problems and rushed over toward her.
"Rebecca?" I leaned down to see her. Her eyes were clenched shut and her breathing was ragged. She didn't have enough energy to fight. If she did, she would probably die. "Please Rebecca, I don't want to fight you. I'm sorry for anything you felt I've done-"
"I can not believe you just tried to apologize like that," she said through clenched teeth.
"Rebecca!" Daniel screamed and he suddenly appeared in between us. He grabbed Rebecca from me and looked at her with concern before he paled. "Oh my God Rebecca. This can't be happening." He rocked her back and forth as I watched helplessly.
"It's not like you cared anyway, " she said as her eyes dropped closed. Her voice was barely a whisper. Everything about Rebecca that I thought was bad suddenly didn't matter anymore. She was just a girl going through a bad situation and now she was dying because of it.
A beam of light shot out of the circle and hit Rebecca and she screamed. More beams shot out from the circle and hit other people creating the same result. It seemed their life was being sucked from them.
"I'll take care of her. Daniel they need you," Maira said and took the screaming Rebecca from his hands. Her hands started to glow was she passed them over her.
"Will that work?" Daniel asked as he watched them. I could see the unshed tears in his eyes as his eyes focused on Rebecca. They belonged together and the thought killed me. Before I found out about all of this, I thought they were the perfect couple. But I shouldn't be thinking about this.
"I hope so," Maira replied as her brows knitted together in concentration. "Go Daniel." He nodded and ran back into the action.
"You too Aura," Maira said after a few seconds and I stared at her with confusion. My bag of weapons appeared next to me. "You might not be a Conjurer or a Nemesis but that is your brother and you deserve to fight for him. We all have your back honey."
