According to various studies performed by certified specialists, as well as every long-standing couple alive, one of the top keys to sustain a healthy relationship is fairly simple – picking the negligible battles and learning to compromise on every other matter; a no brainer. When Chris and Natalia begin dating after that day in the cafe shop, they soon recognize the only way they could ever work, could ever have a real chance at making it, is if they both learn to let go a little and exercise the true meaning of compromising.

And they do.

Fairly quickly, Chris learns of Natalia's distaste of being pampered without returning the favor, no matter how insignificant and simple a gesture is. For example, if Chris meets her outside of the school parking lot with a latte in hand, she stubbornly insists on taking a trip to the nearest Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru to buy him a chocolate frosted donut – his favorite. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

The issue with that is Chris loves to spoil the people in his life that matter to him, and if he wants to buy her a coffee, then damn it, he will buy her a coffee. So, he begrudgingly pulls into the drive-thru with her debit card in one hand while Natalia sits in the passenger seat, concealing the triumphant smile behind the lip of her delicious latte.

When it's time for their date nights, they fall into a similar routine right off the bat, as well; he pays for the meal and she's in charge of the rest of the evening's' plans. Chris isn't the least bit surprised when her plans show a pattern; Natalia likes to choose activities that would benefit getting to know each other.

When they go ice skating, Chris is impressed to discover Natalia's well coordinated on the ice from her ballet days. (He also uncovers her father's fond nickname for her was mi bailarina when she was growing up.) That same night, Natalia learns Chris can hold his own on the slippery surface from years of playing hockey with his friends at the same rink.

Another night, Natalia surprises Chris with an evening at the Concord Youth Theatre during after hours (with a little help from Shanna and Lisa). He awes her by showing off his tap dancing skills and eagerly complies her request to be taught the routine. Many hours later, he insists she stick with ballet while pulling her back up from the ground, Natalia feigning a scowl after taking another fall to her bottom. She can salsa side by side with the professionals just fine, but tap dancing is most definitely not her forte.

After a month that is filled with a string of dates of the like, it's safe to say they know each other pretty well. Like how Chris can cook very basic things (pasta, mini pizzas, grilled cheese, etc), while Natalia prefers to experiment with ingredients. And that Chris enjoys scanning the Mystery & Crime bookshelves at Barnes & Noble, while Nat wastes too much time learning How to Coupon a Bargain. And after a rather windy night, they conclude that they both hate the mall, but love window shopping while strolling hand-in-hand down a strip of small shops in Salem.

On this particular night, a night that would go down in history as one of the most pivotal nights of their relationship, Chris finds his hand clutching Natalia's tightly, tiptoeing through the halls of Ephraim Curtis Middle School.

"Are you sure this is okay?"

They're being two rebels, trespassing onto school grounds on a Saturday night. Granted, yes, Natalia did use the security passcode to get through the alarms, and it is her key that unlocks the planetarium for their viewing pleasure. But it is still considered trespassing when she has a date tagging along, no intention of using the obtained passes for educational purposes.
