(Midna's POV)
I saw the boy, usually strong enough to handle anything, crumble right before my very eyes. I honestly did not know what else to do. As much as it hurt to admit this was the only way, I had to do it eventually. It was now or never, and the pain of never would, ironically, that pain would last forever. I turned away.
"Link, you have to let me go..."
He did not take that well. He did the opposite, literally. Though it was a sentimental remark, he began to cling to me like a small child to their parents going away on some business trip.
"I can't.. Please don't leave me!" His crying intensified.
I felt guilty even though I knew this was no act of betrayal. I attempted laughing to avoid crying. I managed a small chuckle, and invalidated the request.
"Of course not, I'm not leaving you. We'll forever be coexisting."
I thought for a second... And I smiled.
"Remember back when in the cell, I told you that I'd help you escape only if you did whatever I wanted?"
He stopped, nodded, and raised his attention to my newfound, almost happy mood.
"Here's what I want. Remember that I am always going to be by your side."
(Link's POV)
"I love you, Link."
She kissed me, and I felt as if I died inside. Because then, she stepped into the portal... And was gone.
I fell to my knees, shattered by the sudden loss of losing the one that meant everything to me.
" No... Don't go..."
