Chapter 9: Evening
For hours and hours, Phoenix and I ran all over the city, showing me many of her favorite places, shoving random food down my throat, and forcing me to take a few pictures with stupid hats and glasses on. I felt like a freakin' tourist. And the funny thing is, I was happier then I have been in a long time.
"So, how about some dinner?"
"You're hungry already?"
"Already? It's after six O'clock!"
"What?!" She grabs my wrist and looks at my watch. "I wasn't even thinking about the time! You have to take me home!!" She says pulling me towards the direction of my car.
I resist. "Nooo the night's still young! Come on, we still have to get some dinner!"
"I can't! I need to get home!"
"Why?"
"I just do!" She says still yanking at me. Ha, I haven't moved an inch since she started.
"Ughhhhhhh." She groans, pulling as hard as she can. But I refuse to move. Instead I pull her towards the other direction, away from my truck.
"You sound constipated." I tease her.
"Ew! Do not." She says while squirming her hand free and stumbling back a little, slightly knocking into the bush behind her.
"Watch your step." I chuckle.
She puts her hand on her hip and tilts her head, giving me her "mad" face.
"Come on Pierce, let's go."
"No."
"Now." She demands.
"Not until we have some dinner...." I cross my arms. 'And desert."
"Fine. I'll walk." She spins on her heels and heads in the other direction. I just stand here and watch her, expecting her to turn back around to insist some more, but she doesn't. Before I know it, she's twenty feet away, without even the slightest look over her shoulder.
"Phoenix?" She just keeps going.
"Phoenix!" I saying while jogging to catch up to her.
"Seriously, you can't just walk all that way."
"Oh yes I can." She states, keeping her eyes forward.
I move in front of her so she'll look at me as I walk backwards. "Just dinner. Then I'll take you right home. I promise."
"No thanks."
"Phoenix come on. It will be faster then walking all the way!" No answer.
I stop in my tracks, but she pays no mind, she just continues forward.
"Okay, okay you win. Whatever." I give in, yet she doesn't even stop. So I yell, "I said I'll take you home!"
With that, she turns around and smiles satisfactory. She doesn't bother to say anything but "I thought so" as she walks now past me, to my car.
I take a few steps so that now I am am walking beside her. "Well jeez. The least you could do is say thank you. After all, I'm doing you the favor."
"Oh really? That's why were you begging me to get in your car?"
"I wasn't begging. I--I......."
"I'm convinced already." She says sarcastically.
"It's called being considerate!"
"Oh well in that case.... My apologies for being so terribly mistaken." She says mockingly, putting her hand on her heart.
