"You're taking him up on this?" Impa asked in disbelief.
"Well, according to him he's loaded, so why not?" Tetra replied as she leaned against the wall of her cabin.
"And you believe him?"
"Sure," she replied with a shrug.
"By the goddess, he's a stowaway...how could he possibly be rich?"
"I don't know, maybe he didn't want to attract attention? But I need that gold, I don't want to use blood money from pirates, or taxes to pay off the scholars."
"Noted, but what if he doesn't pay?"
"Then there's no harm done... to us. We're heading to Farren anyways, so it's not like we're going out of our way."
"You aren't just helping him because he's got pointed ears and is handsome, now are you?"
Tetra smirked and then pressed a hand to her heart, as though hurt. "How could you ask something like that? You wound me."
Impa sighed but didn't grace her with a response to that. "Alright Captain, but if he causes trouble-"
"I won't," came a voice on the other side of the door.
Tetra flinched in surprise but hid it. "Ah good, you're here. I was just discussing with my first mate the proposition you presented to me."
"And?"
"There's no harm in taking you up on it. Our course ultimately ends with Farren anyways."
"Thank you," Link said with a dip of his head. The motion seemed familiar to Tetra.
"It'll be awhile," she warned.
"I'm in no hurry," he replied.
"If you don't pay me what you said you would, I will kill you."
Link smiled. "Don't worry about it, you'll get what you're owed."
"Also, you do what I say, when I say it. This isn't a pleasure cruise." She turned towards her first mate. "Impa, see to the cleaning of the deck please."
"Aye, captain," she replied as she bowed and left the cabin.
"Alone at last," Link said as he walked over and leaned against the wall.
"You've got a lot of bravado for a stowaway."
"A handsome, pointed-eared stowaway."
Tetra scowled. "It's not nice to eavesdrop you know."
"Your point?"
She sighed.
"So, why the interest in the pointed ears?"
"They're worth more as slaves," she growled.
"Ha, you're lying, I don't think you'd have it in you to sell someone."
Tetra raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? You don't know what I can and cannot do."
"I can judge people pretty well."
She gritted her teeth. "Like I said, you don't know me. You couldn't possibly know half the things about me," she said as she stood up and walked around her desk, aiming to leave before she lost her temper. She didn't get the chance.
"A little pirate captain, determined to have people fear and know her name, determined that people should respect her, to-"
He didn't get the chance to say another word before she had snatched the knife from the table and slashed it across his face, grabbed him by the back of the head, and then pressed the bloodied blade against his throat.
She could smell the blood already, the tang in the air was a familiar one. "Try me again, and I'll end you. Regardless of how much you may be worth; gold isn't everything."
Link gasped in pain but didn't move until she had removed the threat from his throat. "Understood," he spat as he pressed his fingers against the bleeding gash.
"Go and find Impa. I don't want to deal with you anymore," Tetra dismissed.

Life with a hired passenger wasn't exactly pleasant and, for the most part, she tried to avoid the annoying boy. He did act more warily around her since she had slashed him, but that was to be expected. He was lucky she hadn't taken out one of his eyes.
Regardless of his wariness he still dogged her footsteps as much as he dared. At first, it annoyed her to no end, but after a few days she got used to it.
Through the days she was trying her hardest not to think about it. Going back to her usual life.
Farren was the end of the line. The end of the summer. The last weeks she could play pirate. So she was going to get her vengeance before she went back for good.
Tetra shook those thoughts away. "Prepare for boarding!" she called. "Spare those sea dogs no mercy! This is the ship I've been hunting for, and these pirates deserve no pity!"
Link walked up behind her as she was commanding her crew. "So, this is what anticipation is really like."
"Shut up, and I told you to stay in the cabin," Tetra snapped.
"It's boring. I want to watch a fight."
"Would you prefer to get in one with me?" she warned, eyeing the bandage on his cheek.
"Ah...no," he said wisely. "Can't I even watch?"
"If you're so insistent, go into the crows nest or something."
"For real?" he asked with a grin.
"Yes, go!" she snapped, pushing him with her free left hand.
"You said that you've been hunting this ship for awhile," he said as he turned back. "Why would you be after another pirate ship?"
Tetra narrowed her eyes. "It's none of your business, now get up there before I put you in the brig to wait for the fight to be over!"
She watched him run to the ladder with a smirk before she turned back to the oncoming fight.
She'd been waiting for this day for six years. Six long years of planning, plotting and tracking him down. She had failed four years ago... But now she would get him... Now she would finally have the pleasure - the closure - of killing him.
The skin on her back crawled as she thought about him, and her hand drifted to her sword at her hip, fingers curling around the hilt.
Today, she would kill that godless filth.
