Chapter 1 new

---------

How long had it been since the last time I had felt pain? Years? Decades? Who could tell, who would know but all I knew right now at this moment in time was the pain In my shoulder from the shot the general had taken at me. Blood trickled from the wound over my fingers of an ever increasing dexterity and it fascinated me. The heat of the crimson liquid and the way I could now move my hands in almost completely fluent motions.

"You still bleeding back there?" The generals harsh tones cut through my train of thought.

"Yes s,sir" I replied

"Good."more of a statement than a reply but who could blame him?

"Dad! Don't be rude." Right, only Julie could. She scowls at her father for a few moments until he speaks again,

"I was only checking jules,.. I am sorry though, for shooting you."I can see the generals eyes in the mirror, through the ice cold stare they show sincere signs of apology .

"It's fine, honestly it's w-what anyone

Wou-ld do in you're situation." Amazing nearly a completely fluent sentence. The general nods, he understands. Julie looks back at me from the passenger seat see looks me over as if examining me.

"R, are you okay? It's really hard to tell if you are or not!" She looks at me with concern in her eyes

"I'm fine Julie. My shoulder just hurts." We'll what else could I say? I don't know much else about the way I feel, I haven't felt in so long. Julie's skin turns a pallor paler than my own at my words, the car is still moving but without worry she unbuckles her seat belt and climbs into the back with me.

"Let me see your shoulder." Julie reaches for my hand and slowly, carefully moves it away from my wounded shoulder. She then begins to slowly probe at my shoulder and I wince." Sorry did that hurt?" Grief riddled in her expression "no, your hands are cold!" I myself find this amusing and I guess so must Julie because at my words we both start to laugh a little but the pain in my arm beckons me to stop. The car squeals to a stop against the un even Tarmac.
