"R will you just do it! It's not hard." nurse Cassidy blathers in my ear. "Yeah well you try getting shot in the shoulder and then tell me it's not hard!" For the past hour all I've been told to do is lift things up, put things down an it's not fun."what's all the moaning about, I can hear you from down the ward." Nora says as she rounds the corner into the rehabilitation room at the end of the ward. How I hope she'll save me! "I'm trying to get R to do excises for his shoulder." Cassidy has her hands on her hips, I really get the impression I'm not her favourite person. "WHAT! Cassidy his wound hasn't even healed yet, you can't strengthen something broken. R come with me I need to check your shoulder, Cassidy go check ward 2." Cassidy fixes Nora with a cold stare grabs her clip bored and storms from the room. I do as I'm told and walk with Nora back to my bed on the ward. " sit down R I need to check your shoulder." I do as I'm told Nora takes of the bandages and the last few layers are stained with blood but the colour is dark, the blood is not fresh. " good your stitches are fine. Actually your wounds looking pretty good your healing well." She smiles as she re wraps my arm. "How long until I can leave here?" I ask Nora "soon I hope." Julie's voice makes the both of us jump nether of us saw her enter the room. She walks over and sits down next to me I the bed I shoot her a smile and she returns it. " to be honest R your arms looking pretty good." Nora picks up a clip bored and a pen. "Right R I need you to do a few things, first can you lift your arm up and hold it there for 10 seconds?" I do as I'm told " how was that? Any pain or discomfort?" Nora had gone back to nurse mode. " no, it Doesn't hurt." And I'm truthful. " okay, now can you move your arm up and down a few times." The questions continue for a while all much of the same. move this this way ,can I do this, can I do that, how does that feel?"right R now all I need is a quick blood sample and, I think you can go!" Finnaly I can leave this infirmary I've already been here the best part of a week and I'm sick and tired of it. Nora comes over and draws some blood for her testing I don't look, the needle makes me feel faint again. " right then R I think you can leave, all you have to do is fill out a discharge form, juls will help," Nora beems at me. I get up and Julie walks with me to the front desk. If you can call it that, it's more of a table with a few papers on it."hi, this is R he's been discharged, can we fill out a form?"Julie asks the woman at the desk. " yes here's the form just fill it out get it signed by your nurse then put it in the box on your way our." The woman hands me the form with a pen and I look down at the form to me it's just paper and squiggles, I cannot fill this out. I look at Julie a frown on my face. She smiles at me and takes the form from my hands se starts to fill it in. When she looks up form the desk she looks puzzled "R there's a few questions here I don't know the answers to and I have a feeling you don't ever." She smiles sympathetically at me."what are they" I ask not in concern more in curiosity, "well your age, your mothers name your fathers name and your place of residence." I just nod at Julie I really don't have much anymore. Julie walks closer to me links her arm with nine and we begin to walk back to Nora. When we round the corner and no one is in sight Julie stops me. "R don't let those things get you down, they don't mater anymore okay." She warps her arms round me in her warm embrace "I know Julie. I have you." And with that she leans in and kisses me again gently with as much love as she can muster. We pull away and again look for Nora, when we find her she signs the card and we leave the infermary.
