Ch09 - Earth

"There's no place like home."

"Two minutes until we can talk to Earth?" I asked. It seemed like a long shot, but it did take two seconds for a signal to reach the moon. That would mean we aren't that far away from Earth anyway.

"What frequency would you like to use?" Savvy asked. "There are very many and narrowing this down could reduce time."

"Uh, try 114.8. I listen to that one often. They'll know me." I answered. FInally, contact to Earth. I wonder how life on Earth is playing out, now that they know there is extraterrestrial life.

"Signal acquired. Contact in approximately fifteen seconds."

I can't believe it. We have spent... well I don't know how long we've been here. It feels like so much has happened. I doubt that we can really return. This chance to learn about... become something bigger. There is a chance that by learning from the Tirid and the Imperial... um... Nation? Union? I dunno.

"Signal. Comms boosted." Savvy informed.

I heard music playing, so I let the song finish. It only took a few seconds.

"Hey, Jackie!" I greeted.

"Hi! Um... you don't seem to have a phone number. May I ask where you're calling from?" Jackie returned.

"I really don't know, to be honest. Somewhere near our solar system I think." I answered. "Oh, and I call here often as well."

"Wait, what? There is no way you can be off Earth if you're calling here." Jackie responded.

"You know Sam? Yeah, that's me. I was the one who went into that ship." I explained.

"That's impossible." Jackie stated in complete disbelief.

"Nope. Hey Grace, Alex! Come say hi!"

"You have the other two with you?" Jackie questioned.

"Yes. I was just wondering how things are being handled over there." I answered.

"Hello!" Grace and Alex called simultaneously.

"Good heavens! Are you three okay?" Jackie asked, very concerned.

"Yeah. It hasn't been too bad up here. It's actually pretty cozy. Though the aliens on this ship weren't too pleased with you guys trying to destroy them. I am not very pleased with that happening while we were on it. Other than that, I'd say it is nice up here. How are things on Earth?"

"You three were presumed dead. Grace's father is especially unhappy. He's actually running a campaign against aliens. Something like Xeno Bust or some odd name like that."

The signal cut off there.

"Savvy, what happened?" I asked.

"The signal was jammed. Unknown source." Savvy answered.

"Can you contact a specific device?" I asked.

"Give me the ID and I can contact the specific device." Savvy answered once more.

"719-674-1459 is the phone number. If you need it, the National ID is 1. That goes in front."

"Hello?" I heard.

"Hi mom. Are you listening to the radio?" I asked.

"Who is this?" She asked. She sounded pretty mad.

"It's Sam. I need to know if you were on 114.8." I told her. I wonder if she thinks I am someone else impersonating me.

"Uh, yeah. But why? What do you want?" She replied. She really doesn't believe me...
