Ch13/2 - Reunion
"Change is coming."
"This is fun!" I announced gleefully. Now that I was sure I wouldn't drown, swimming seemed like something I'd like to do often.
"Don't talk too much!" Anna warned, "You might stop floating!" That shut me up.
We'd almost made it to the shore we need to be on. I wasn't as close as our bundle of sticks and grass was, but I was closer.
I wanted to try and see how close I was, but I wasn't sure I could recover afterwards. Shortly after, my head hit a rock.
"Gah!" I hissed painfully. I grabbed onto the stony edge and pulled myself up. Anna had made it to the edge ahead of me, but we arrived a few hundred feet apart, as Anna was still walking over to where I was.
"Do you have your phone?" I asked. She pulled it out of her pocket to reveal that it was drenched. There was no way she could use it without destroying it.
"You have your wrist thing. Can that get maps?" Anna suggested, putting her phone back into her pocket. I looked down at Savvy, forgetting that she was there. I'd gotten so accustomed to the weight of the AI that I forgot she was there.
"Savvy, wake up." I said, now looking at the screen. It flashed multiple colors before operating correctly.
You show your true colors more and more.
"What does that mean?" I thought. It didn't take long before the realization hit me like a ton of bricks. I'd killed six people with a single action. A few more on Chorus.
As I regained my composure, I found the screen was blank. "Savvy, can you find maps of New York and mark where we are?" I asked.
"Just one second, Sam. I need to access where they're stored, and the encryption type is one I've never seen before." Savvy answered. A lot of text scrolled across the screen of the AI, making me wonder just why she couldn't access it through a nearby wifi connection.
"Why do you call her Savvy?" Anna asked. She seemed genuinely confused as to why it wasn't a normal name.
"I didn't name her that, that's what she called herself." I answered, waiting patiently for Savvy to finish hacking the Internet.
"Oh. It's an odd name." Anna commented. I must admit, it was.
"I found many conflicting maps labeled New York." Savvy reported.
"Go through the files from Google. They tend to be reliable." I ordered quickly. I needed to get back off Earth, and we needed to be off Earth yesterday. I think.
"Identified. I'm bringing them up." Savvy said dutifully, sounding pretty proud of how quickly she did all of this. A map of New York popped up on the screen with Anna and myself marked.
"Can you mark where we're going?" I asked. Savvy asked where. "I need to get to The Better Bean Bakery. It's a café not far from Times Square." I answered. A marker popped up on the map and directions were given to our destination.
"Thank you, Savvy."
"I will be searching over your culture until you have need of me." Savvy returned. I lowered my arm and joined Anna in finding the streets.

Anna and I walked in near silence, occasionally telling each other that there is something of interest nearby. It wasn't too eventful. I'm actually amazed that the government hasn't set up roadblocks.
