I should have listened to her. Eret thought angrily to himself. Lupa was right, this was no ordinary dragon raid. The young chieftain  slammed his wooden shield against an armored Rumblehorn and it shattered to splinters. The beast roared angrily and charged at him. He moved swiftly out of the way and the dragon ran straight into one of the large wooden beams that held their torches.

"Not bad old friend. You've gotten better at fighting since we last saw each other." Turning around he saw a familiar face that he wished he never saw.

"Drago Bludvist." He spat. "I see you've lost your mind already."

"Is that a way for you to speak to an old friend? One who looked past the fact that you were half slave and a bastard and helped you win the heart of the woman you wanted?"

"That wasn't you who did that." Eret said narrowing his eyes. "It was someone who wasn't thirsting for power and control. It was someone who was still human and who understood me."

"That man is dead. He died when his own family was killed by dragons and suffered."

"Then why are you using dragons eh? What use are they to you?"

"Well Eret, I'm glad you asked." Drago said with a dark chuckle. "Let me show you by taking out some of your people. I know where they are hidden." Eret's eyes widened in horror but then narrowed in anger.

"You stay away from my family or I swear to Odin I will kill you!" He roared and pulled his sword out. Drago sneered at him and prepared to fight with only his metal staff.

The air rang with the clangs of metal, the screams of wounded warriors and dragons. Eret fought thinking of his family who he prayed were safe and had the sense to run away.

"I can still hear them." Lupa sobbed as her grandmother tried to soothe her gently. "I can hear their screams of pain now too!"

"Shhh it's alright the voices will be gone soon." Agnes said gently rubbing her granddaughters back.

"I don't think they would." Eret sighed throwing another stone against the wall. "In fact I don't think they'll be going away at all."

"Eret!" His mother scolded and slapped the back of his head.

"Oww! What it's true!" Eret said rubbing the spot where his mother hit him.

"You don't know what she is going through."

"Like you have any idea at all yourself, Clara." Agnes grumbled holding Lupa closer to her and gesturing for Eret to come and sit by her. "If only I remembered where I left my book. Then we'd have some answers."

"Again about that book full of nonsense mother?" Clara groaned gently rocking the baby.

"It's not nonsense, all the information in it is pure truth!"

"They're coming for us!" Lupa yelled jumping out of her grandmother's arms. "They're coming from underground!"

"What?" Clara leapt to her feet as the ground began to shake violently. "RUN! NOW!" She screamed clutching the baby to her chest.

"Mama!" Lupa screamed throwing herself at her mother to steady herself. Agnes and Eret were nowhere to be seen and the voices that sounded of rocks scraping against each other got louder and louder. And out of the ground popped out several Whispering Deaths wearing armor.

KILL! KILL! KILL! Luna heard them scream and heard the screams of the other villagers that suddenly got silent.

"RUN LUPA!" Clara screamed shoving Lupa away. Lupa fell to the floor and a large Whispering Death came out the ground with it's back to her. Clara grabbed her ax and swung it to protect herself screaming and yelling curses at the dragon. Lupa could only watch in horror to what happened next to her mother and her baby sister.

"Father!" Eret yelled as his father came into sight.

"Stay here while I go help him." Agnes said rushing forward with her staff in hand.

Eret watched in silence as both his grandmother and father fought together against the man. He felt something grab his shoulder and he almost screamed only to see it was Lupa with something red splattered on her face- blood.

"What happened are you alright?" Eret asked grabbing some snow to wipe her face.

"It's hers." Luna whispered. "It's not mine."

"Who's Lupa?"

"Mama and Sunny's blood." Eret's hand jerked away from his sisters face. What had happened to them?

"Mama pushed me away and tried fighting a Whispering Death with her ax." Luna said answering his unspoken question. "And then it got them with one bite." Eret suddenly felt sick. Suddenly a loud crack broke the silence and they looked over to see their grandmother laying on the floor in a twisted position.

"YOU KILLED HER!" Their father howled and attacked the man again.

"I suppose that your other family members are dead too eh?" The man said slamming the butt of his spear into Eret's side and he fell to his knees.

"No....no they can't be dead..." he wheezed. "Clare....Eret....Sunny...Lupa...." Drago smirked and posed his spear over the chief's back prepared to finished him off when something hard and wet hit the side of his head.

"YOU LEAVE MY FATHER ALONE YOU BASTARD!" He turned to see a boy about the age of eleven standing on top of a fallen cart with a snowball in his hand. His hazel eyes burned with anger and Drago could see the tear stains marking the boys face.

"I suppose you're one of Eret's brats hmm?"

"You leave my father alone!" The boy yelled.

"Eret run now!" Eret yelled getting to his feet and grabbing his sword.

"Oh this is where your line ends today old friend." Drago sneered and rushed at the boy.

"NO!" Eret ran and threw himself on top of Drago and began to wrestle with him.

"RUN ERET NOW!" Eret screamed as his son stood there frozen in fear. "NOW!"

"This ends here!" Drago yelled stabbing Eret in the stomach. Eret coughed and gagged as blood came out of his mouth and he fell to the floor wit the spear embedded in him.

"Father!" A little girl around the age of seven ran forward toward him but the boy rushed to stop her.

"Any last words?" Drago asked. Eret looked up at Drago with an angered look in his eyes.

"B-beware the Wolf Queen." he said hoarsely. "She will be one of the many who will bring you down." Drago watched the light leave the mans eyes and fall forward onto his face with a sigh.

"PAPA!" The little girl screamed trying to get to him but the boy held her back.

"So both of you are his heirs hmm?" The boy stood in front of his sister protectively and glared at Drago with a look pure hatred. "I suppose there's only one thing for you to do."

"And what's that?" The boy demanded.

"Be part of my army of course."
