Beth's POV


I woke on a park bench my back aching and a hobo at my feet, oh wait that's Bill

"Hey Bill, long time no see" I said to him sitting up

"Hey Beth I'm sorry I ate your lunch but I did protect you from a hormonal teenage boy trying to find you" he said laughing

Bill was a homeless man but when I ran away from home at 12 years old he saved me from getting killed, it's a long story but know he saved me and even today he is protecting me, the father I never had

"It's ok Bill you deserve it but where am I?" I asked looking round

"A park near your house, lets get you home your mum will be worried" he said getting up with his dog, Barf

He named it that because he found him in some vomit as a puppy Bill then feed him and made him to the strong obedient dog he is today

"Ok" I said getting up stretching

"Come on Barf" Bill whistled and Barf came along happily padding his paws on the ground

"Thanks so much Bill" I said as we stopped in front of my house "wanna come in you know you can stay" I said reminding him of our spare bedroom

"Oh no I belong out here could you just get me $20 that's all I ask for" he said looking at me with his big brown eyes

"Sure I'll be right back" I said sneaking inside

I silently opened the door luckily I had mum oil the hinges for occasions like this I tiptoed in and I saw mum with a bottle beside her, whoops I think I caused that I then snuck up the stairs making sure to miss the 7 step which creaked

Once I was safely in my room I opened my wallet, got the money and snuck back outside to Bill

"Here you go" I handed it to him

"Alright darling cya next time" he winked then whistled calling Barf as they walked off into the sunrise or so that's how it looked, corny aye

I snuck back inside feeling quite happy when I forgot about the 7 step

"Fuck"

"Huh, what, BETH!" My mum called falling off the couch "ow my head"

"Yes mum" I said innocently walking down the steps

"Sit next to mummy, sit, sit, SIT" she said patting the ground next to her

"Ok" I said sitting

"First I get a call from the school saying you've run off then a get Ashton knocking on our door then I see you with BILL on a bench and now I found this mighty fine bottle to try help, but it doesn't! what happened Beth?"

Even though mum seems like a bad person she is one of the best mums ever she understands everything and bends over backwards just to make me happy I trust her with everything and she listens and makes life better

"Ok well..." I told her the whole story not missing out a single detail

After I told her she just hugged me tightly for about 2 minutes stroking my hair saying that it was alright

"I know that it's hard but I've got a really good job here so try stay at this school" she said kissing the top of my head

"For you mum I will try" I hugged her again and we heard a knock on the door "I'll get it, you go have shower and don't worry about me if I'm gone longer than 2 days then you can worry"

She nodded and walked to her room

I then tried to tame my hair as I walked to the door

"Hi" I said as I opened it to see Ashton

"Hi, uh are you ok I saw you with a homeless guy ummm" he said mumbling not really getting anything that had happened

I looked up to see his eyes red and puffy like he had been crying and he was still in his uniform from yesterday

We sat down and Ashton said three words "spill the beans"

I obediently told him everything

"Wow" was all he could say as I finished

"Yea" I said looking away biting my lip as I felt tears filling up my eyes

"Beth? Are you crying?" He asked embracing me in a hug I felt protected safe from anything

"No I'm not crying it's just..." Then I hiccuped

Whenever I cry I get the hiccups annoying aye

"It's ok" he said brushing my hair with his fingers "wanna watch a movie?" He asked

"Sure" I said sitting up and grabbing the blanket from the back of the couch

"Here we go" he said picking out a random movie

To be honest I wasn't really watching the movie I was just watching Ashton who I was cuddling up to, I felt so small in his big arms it was perfect until mum had to ruin it

"Ok I'm all fresh all ready for wor-oooooooooo, someone's got a boy round" she said twirling her hair and winking at me "I'll be out of your hair soon I just gotta call the school and say your sick from sleeping on a bench" hahaha she laughed walking into the kitchen

"You told your mum?" Ashton said shocked

"Yea she's like the best mum ever" I said my eyes swelling up again

"Aww" he said kissing the top of my head "oh and the surprise is that I'm your new next door neighbour" he said smiling

"Oh cool are you moving today?" I asked

"Yep but I'd rather stay here with you" he said going to pull me in tighter but I wriggled out of his grasp

"Well I'm not staying here feeling sorry for myself I'm gonna have a shower you can go have one at your house and just come over when you're ready" I said getting up and running up the stairs
