"Kayla?" I heard my mom call me from downstairs "Kayla get off your laptop and come her for a moment!" I shut my laptop and went downstairs, "What, mom?" " I need you to go get some eggs from the store." I sighed and went to get my things.

I pulled my leather jacket over my Mickey Mouse shirt and slipped on my shoes. "Is there anything else you need me to get?" "No just eggs" "alright," I said grabbing my car keys off the table. "I'll be back in a little bit." "Ok honey, drive safe."

As I closed the door I shivered. I probably should have worn a heavier jacket, I forgot it was still January. I got in the car and started toward the grocery store.

I really didn't like going out to super public places because I caught almost all of the men I walked passed staring at my chest. So I tried to look as least desirable as possible. I didn't brush my hair, didn't wear make up, and wore old clothes, but that never seemed to do the trick. So I went in and tried to be as quick as possible.

Oh my god, how hard is it to pay for a bag of frozen peas?! I was starting to get annoyed and a man came up to me,

"Hey! Don't I know you?"

"um, no I don't think so."

Please leave, I don't want to talk to you.
" Kayla Gordan, isn't it? My name's Peter. We were classmates in high school."
"Right, hi. Uh- I really need to get home so I don't really have time to talk."
" oh, that's too bad , I was thinking we could grab a coffee or somthing, you know, so we can catch up,"
I payed for the eggs and started walking before he could finish talking. I didn't want anything to do with him. As soon as I got home I stuck the eggs in the fridge and ran upstairs.

My heart was pounding. I very vaguely remember peter. We didn't really know him. I mean we had a few group projects together, but that's it.

I'm just not going to think about it right now. I was about to get up and finish chores and schoolwork but I dozed off before I knew it.

In my dream, there was such a sense of dread and sadness. Everything I saw was a deep shade of red. I was standing by a crashed car. I heard someone crying-a woman.

"Kayla!" My mom shook me awake, "Kayla get up!" I groaned and tried to go back to sleep, but mom wouldn't let me. " what?" I asked, obviously annoyed " there's someone here to see you." It was probably Melissa, but I wasn't sure, "who is it, Melissa?" She shook her head "come on downstairs," reluctantly , I got up and walked downstairs.

At the bottom of the stairs, I froze. It was a boy. He had dark brown hair, he was tall, with very light green, almost yellow eyes. Peter, why did he follow me here?!

"Oh, hi Kayla! Nice house." My heart was pounding and I could feel the anger building up in me, but I had to hold it in.

I managed a halfhearted smile, " yeah, thanks. Why are you here?" " I just thought that maybe we could grab a  coffee or something. You know, catch up a little."

Needless to say, I did not want to catch up with him. "Um..." I had to come up with an excuse, and fast." I can't, because I... I'm going to the movies with my friend." That seemed like a reasonable excuse.

But of course, here came my mother, " I thought you said Melissa was going out on a date or something later."

Great. Now I don't have an excuse " Kayla go ahead and get some coffee with him! I have things I need to do around the house."

Well, I guess I don't have a choice, "fine, but don't think of this as a date, because it's not." "Alright, alright! Just think of it as two old friends hanging out for a little while."
