"And I'd choose you
In a hundred lifetimes,
And in a hundred worlds,
In every version of reality.
I'd find you
And I'd choose you. "--The chaos of the stars.Dear Reader,
Yes.
Graduation night.
Time flies by. Doesn't it?
For now, I sat at the giant auditorium of our college with bright chandeliers that were lit up and hung from the ceilings. The stage was occupied with a row of seats with all the professors and Dean up on stage. Students were all dressed up in their black uniforms and their jumbo hats on their heads.
I had mine too. I looked around to see everyone smiling as the principal spoke. Her occasional humorous comments made us smile back at her. I looked right and left at my row. I was sitting between Jamie and Dexter. George was beside Jamie looking pale and somewhat indecisive about the future.
I have had a word with him few months back. I wouldn't say he was a bad guy or was doing something that wasn't right. He did everything the way it should be. He had applied for a job in Boston, rented a place there and made sure Jamie was okay with everything. It was Jamie's wish to move to Boston and do something on her own. She even talked it out with her parents and they didn't seem to mind. Yeah, a bit nonchalant.
George was doing everything he could to make this work. And by his actions, I knew he had feelings for her. But my question was why not express it and sort things out? Things would have been so much better. George cannot possibly do all of this just because he feels guilty about sleeping with her, there's definitely more than what meets the eye.
George wasn't much close to me. That is as a friend. So I couldn't pressurize him to do something. Dex had several conversations with him regarding this fact, whether he was sure about everything. He only replied in the positive.
Jamie clasped my hand and woke me up from my revelry.
"This is it, you know..."
I looked at her and she smiled nervously. We were definitely psyched about everything. Why can't it be like a fairy tale? They lived happily ever after, boom end of story. We hated this moment, the moment when people like us have to part ways due to lack of options.
I mean think about this. There are so many people staying with each other who want to kill themselves but they still tolerate each other and yet live together. And look at us, we have to go to away from the only family that we have. What shitty life, right?
Her name was called out and she walked down the way with grace and in a proper manner. I looked at George and he looked down and smiled. He took off his glasses and wiped them with the edge of his shirt and put them back on. The auditorium reverberated with an applause and it soon subsided when Jamie adjusted the mike and cleared her throat.
