Chapter eight: Apology

10.28.1944

It's been a couple of days since I last talked to Tom, he's been abruptly ignoring me. What he said those days ago actually had an effect on me and I even tried to convince Slughorn to let me trade potion partners. Unfortunately I'm still stuck with Tom, we don't talk at all during potions I now sit as far away from him as I can. I've found out that Tom is looking for Slytherin's locket currently, I have to find a way to prevent him from doing so.

Hermione snapped out of her thoughts when someone took a seat beside her.

"Granger." Tom greeted.

"Riddle." Hermione replied back looking ahead as Dumbledore began his lesson. Today they had to transfigure toads into goblets. She still remembered the time Ron and Harry tried, it was a complete disaster. She felt her lips curl up at the happy memory.

I miss them so much.

"What's so amusing Granger?" Tom asked slightly curious.

"Oh so now you talk to me?" Hermione said a bit sassily. Tom sighed and fixed Hermione with his dark eyes.

"Look...I apologise for my outburst. I hadn't ever had a friend before...I had acted a bit defensive." Tom replied.

Hermione sighed, her anger for Tom melting away immediately. "Tom if you think that having friends is a weakness, then your wrong. Having friends makes you stronger because they'll always be by your side."

"I've grown up in a orphanage with filthy muggles all my life, I've never had a friend, the kids were always mean to me. How do you think I'd react when someone informs me that they are my...friend." He replied sighing before easily transfiguring the goblet in front of him into a frog.

"Well done Mr Riddle five points for Slytherin-" Dumbledore stopped mid sentence when Hermione transfigured her own into a frog. "As well ten points for you Miss Granger!" He said smiling at Hermione. Tom glared up at the old man in hatred.

After class Hermione made her way down to the Great Hall, Tom following a few steps behind her.

"Hermione?" Tom called. She stopped and turned around to see his tall form stride over to her he was at least two feet tall then her "Why don't you join me for lunch, Dippet has given me permission to go to Hogsmeade, I'm permitted to bring one guest."

"And you picked me? Why don't you go with Parkinson, she'll be extremely eager to go with you." Hermione assured looking up at him in slightly.
