Well now you know about my past. Everything. At least most of it. I swallow the large lump in my throat.
I look back up and they stare at me with wide eyes. Apart from the boy with stormy eyes. He gives a odd look. Almost as if it's sympathy. I look back down and begin to eat my lunch.
"Why did your dad get sent to prison?" The other dark skinned boy asks
I shrug. "It doesn't matter" I say
The bell goes. Gyms last so I walk to my locker to grab my gym bag. My old bag with my old blue shorts and white shirt. The boy with stormy eyes leans against the locker next to mine.
"Hi I'm Tobias"
"Hi" I say and fake a smile.
"Were they bothering you?" He asks and points to Eric and Peter. I glare at them.
"Yes but I can take care of myself." I say and slam my locker shut.
"When did you get here" he asks
"Yesterday" I say
"Really?" He says
"Yeah they already knew for a few weeks I was coming. That's why they enrolled me before term. I only found out I was coming here on Saturday." I say and shrug.
"Come on we've gotta go to gym" he says and walk to the gym. I go into the girls changing room. I don't want to get changed in front of the girls who I've only just met. They might judge me about every thing.
I walk to the toilets and get changed in the cubicle. I pull my shoes on that almost fall apart. I hear a few girls walk in.
"So what do you think about Tris?" I hear the voice of Shauna ask
"I dunno, she seems a bit off..." Christina says
"Why'd you say that?" Lynn says
"Well for starters, her dads in prison. I know that not so good people go to prison for not so good things. She has scars on her hands  and probably all over her body." That's true. I have them all over my body. Mainly on my arms and on my back. Just a constant reminder of my past. Thanks dad.
"Also she was in care."
"Yeah because her mom was dead and dad in prison."
"Yeah but no one comes all the way from Michigan to come to Chicago. That's because she has no one to care for her. So her home may of become desperate to get rid of her. So they search for a family outside of the state" again true.
"God knows how many families she's been too?!" Shauna exclaims
"And schools!" Lynn says
"Ok, so we don't trust her? We don't know her."
"Exactly and I don't really want to be associated with her. Her boots look as if they barely fit her and her clothes. Don't even get me started." She says. I feel a large lump in my throat. They're all just as bad as Bree and her bitches. I get up off the floor and walk out of the cubicle. All their eyes widen.
"Shit..." Marlene mutters
"Tris, we ..."
"You didn't know I was in there. Don't worry I know when I'm not wanted." I growl and walk out of the toilet. I throw my bag in the changing room and walk into the hall.
"I'm coach Amar today we'll be doing basket ball" he counts round and puts us in groups. I'm with Tobias. The girls stand in the corner and whisper some thing.
"You ok?" He asks
I nod. I'm not gonna tell him what went down between me and the girls. I don't know him. We start to play. Tobias throws me the ball I run down the pitch and throw it to another boy. The boy chucks it back to me and I shoot. I get it in. A few minutes I take another shot and get it in.
"Your kind of good at this." He says
"Yeah, I used to play a lot with the kids down in my street." I say and leave the bit out about the kids at the juvenile centre. I didn't play while at the care home because I didn't want too. It just reminded me of things. We finish the game we won and move onto the next one. We playing against Peter, Eric, A boy called Drew, a girl called Molly and another boy called Alex. We start to play. They all run at me when ever I have the ball and I throw to Tobias who shoots. They get the ball. Molly tries to pass to Peter. I jump and catch the ball. I throw to another boy. Eric pretty much pushes me to the floor.
"Oops, sorry thought you had the ball." He says sarcastically. I glare at him. Tobias walks over to me and extends his hand.
"Here." He says
"Thanks" I mutter. I dust my self.
"Woah what happened to these?" He asks and points to my arms and hands.
He looks at my legs making me feel self conscious. I only have a few scars on my legs.
"Nothing don't worry" I say and shrug him off.
Tobias POV
I walk out of gym.
"Hey you gonna come over. The whole gangs gonna be there." I nod. Zeke and Uriah get into my car. I drive to their house. The others follow. We walk up to their room.
We sit in a circle. We've been friends since the start of Freshman year. It's great. We've never had any major fall outs and we just work. So I think we're all a bit shifty if another person wanted to join the group. Well I'm not really sure whether she wants to or not.
"What do you think about the Tris girl?" Uriah asks
"I think she's alright." I say. The whole group stares at me with wide eyes.
"Your kidding right?!" Will exclaims
"No, why?"  I ask
"Look at her!" Shauna says
"I have!" I say
"You think she's alright. Just look at her. Look at what she wears! She just won't fit in. Look at her past. Mom dead. Dad in prison! Probably from a bad neighbour hood. How many foster families has she been too?! How many schools has she been kicked out of!"
They nod in agreement.
"Never judge a book by its cover." I say.
"She just doesn't seem right and bad. We don't want to associated with her." Zeke says
"Are you kidding me? We're supposed to be accepting! Leave the judgemental comments to Peter, Eric and Molly You can do what you want. But I'm not giving up on her."
