Tris POV
I pull my self up and help him up. His much taller then I remember. He runs the back of his head. I pull him into a hug.
"I've missed you so much." I say. He strokes the back of my head.
"I've missed you too." He whispers. I pull away.
"What are you doing here?!" I say.
"Back at you!!" He says. His thumb gently brushes under my eye where the bruise is fading. He then looks at my eyebrow which has healed but I haven't got the stitches out yet.
"Well Im being fostered here at the moment." I say.
"You got a family? They nice?" He says. I nod.
"Better then the other ones." I say. He smiles.
"Why are you here?" I raise one of my eyebrows.
"Ummmmmm... Well..." He shuffles around.
"Come on you can tell me!" I say.
"I ran away." He says.
"What! Why!?!!!" I practically yell.
"After you went and caught. We had a few weeks of stealing. When I went home to tell your dad. He was pissed and beat me up. We were all caught. I didn't go back home. I went to a foster home. I hated it there so I ran away. I came here. Then I ran into you." He says. I smile. Thank god he's ok. Better then me anyway. Finally the girls catch up.
"Who's this?" Christina says pointing at Cody.
"Oh, this is Cody. We used to live near each other..." I say and bite my lip. He extends a hand and they all shake it. They all smile at him. We all walk out of the mall.
"Hey Tris do you need a lift?" Marlene calls.
"Nah, I'm walking with Cody. Thanks any way though!" I call. She smiles and they drive away.
"Where you staying?" I ask. His deep green eyes look at the floor. He shrugs.
"No where particular." He says
"You can stay at mine." I say
"What?!" He says
"Yeah, we've got an spare bedroom. You can stay in there until we sort you out." I say. He smiles. Please dear god let my parents be ok with this. When we get to the door of the house I knock. Caleb answers.
"Hey." He says groggily as if he's just woke up.
"Where's Natalie and Andrew?" I ask.
"They're... Ummmm who's this?" He says and points.
"This is Cody." I say. He smiles at him and extends his hand.
"Hi I'm Caleb." He says.
"Mom and Dad are in the office." He shouts back as he runs upstairs. I shake my head.
"Nerd" I mutter. Cody follows me through to the office. I knock.
"Come in" Natalie's voice calls.
"Hi, um... This is Cody." I say. Andrew extends his hand and they shake. Natalie does the same.
"Cody was one of the kids from my neighbourhood." I said.
"Ah yes, the boys who you'd go out stealing with." Andrew says. I literally face palm. I want to smack him so hard right now. I nod. Cody goes bright red.
"Um I was wondering if he could stay here for a few nights." I say
"Why?" Natalie asks
"I ran away from the foster home." He says. "I hated it there"
"So can he stay."  I ask, pleading with them.
"Can you go outside for a second?" Andrew says to Cody. He nods. Once he's gone they turn back to me.
"So..." I say. Natalie gives me an awkward look.
"Well..." She starts.
"Your a girl and he's a boy..." Andrew says
"Yeah. So?" I say. What's going on.
"We don't want to, Ya know. Have a 16 and pregnant foster daughter." Andrew blurts out. Wait! They think that I'm going to want to do it with some one who's like my brother! Ewwwww!!!
"Oh my god!" I practically yell. "That's fucking disgusting! That's like me doing it with Caleb!" I cringe. Really after everything I've been through. I'm not going to let no boy touch me again. No!
"Language!" Natalie says. I look down. Come on! I just want one person I can trust! Well maybe more then one person. I already trust Tobias. Well that was till he was making out with the wicked bitch from the west.
"Please!" I beg.
"Ok, only till we know what situation we're in." Andrew says. Natalie gives him a reassuring look.
"Thank you!!!" I say and pull them into a hug. Only for a few seconds.
"Your not going to regret this!" I say and burst out. Cody stands coolly, leaning against the wall.
"You can stay!" I yell. I tug him upstairs. I open the door into the spare room, it's all white. It's pretty.
"This ok?" I ask. He nods frantically.
"Better then any where I've ever been!" He says. He pulls his backpack off. He pulls out all his clothes. Not much, just like me.
"I'm just next door if you need me." He nods, still stuffing clothes into draws. I smile. Finally, I've got my best friend back. Forever.
