Francis awoke in the middle of the night, just like most nights before. Every night for some time now, he had been having the same dream, and each night the dream seemed to become clearer and clearer, but it still made no sense to him. The first night he had this dream, all he saw was the open sea and nothing more. A few nights after that, he had seen the open blue sky and a shore along the same sea he had seen before.
It was only the past few nights that he had seen her. A strange yet beautiful young girl, sitting on a rock overlooking the sea. It wasn’t until later into the dream that he had realized that a fish-like tail had replaced what should have been legs. She was just sitting there, her back turned to him as she watched out to the sea as the wind blew through her (hl/hc) hair. She never turned his way, so he didn’t see her face. Only her tail and the back of her. He could be going crazy, but he believed that she was an actual mermaid.
If only he knew who she was, or if she was even real. If only she could be, maybe his dreams would make a lot more sense. He had no idea why he was having these dreams every night, or why she was in it. They were the only two people within his dream, with nothing but the seashore and the sea surrounding them. The location seemed familiar to him, but he couldn’t exactly place it. Like he had been there before, but it had been so long ago. He didn’t even know if the location was real or not, he just knew that he must be having these dreams for a reason.
He slipped out of his bed and glanced outside the window of his house/school dorm. At the school he attended, each person had their own place to fit their needs, classes that fitted their specific strong points, and it was also an international school with students from all around the world. Right now, the school was starting to go into summer break but everyone could stay in their houses even when the school year was over.
Currently the sun was starting to rise up, so it was still pretty early for him to be up. He left the window and sat in front of his painting easel. He just felt that he had to paint what he had seen in his dreams. It always seemed so vivid when he was dreaming, but he wanted to keep his dreams on a canvas as well, as if he could reassure himself that his dream held some kind of unknown meaning.
He painted the scenery as good as he could remember it, but his main focus was the girl he saw on the rock. Her image was still very clear in his mind, and he wanted to make sure he got her every detail of which he had seen into the painting. He wanted to see her most of all for some reason. But who was she, and what meaning did she hold for him? He wanted to find out, but none of it could be nothing more than a dream. Or could it?

Soon after Francis was finished with his painting, he got a phone call from Alfred on his cell phone. He reached into his pocket and pushed the answer call button and greeted Alfred before he started talking. “Francis, dude!” Alfred said when Francis answered. “Come down to the beach with us! We’re having our own little party down here!”
“Alright then, where is this beach you are at?” Francis asked Alfred.
“It’s the one that’s close to Kiku’s house. There are already a ton of people here, like the guys from the Nordic countries, Ludwig and Gilbert, Antonio, the Italian brothers, Arthur, Ivan and his sisters and those three guys that hang around him, Yao, and um… Who are you?”
“I’m Matthew, your brother!” Matthew sweatdropped at Alfred. At least he could pretend to notice him.
Alfred laughed slightly awkwardly and got back to Francis. “But it’s an open party so you can come if you want! Just bring whatever you want.”
“Oui~” Francis answered him. “I’ll be there as soon as I can. Bye.” Francis pressed the call end button on his phone and put it back in his pocket. He studied his newly finished painting for a moment. This image seemed to be the entirety of his dreams. He just wanted to figure out the meaning behind it. He hung the painting on the wall above his bed and packed some things for the beach. He changed out of his night clothes and into some swimwear and strapped his beach bag over his shoulder and got on his bike to ride to the beach. The beach Alfred had mentioned wasn’t that far away, so he got there in less than fifteen minutes. He parked his bike and locked it on the bike rack before meeting up with Alfred a small distance down the shore.
