Arthur’s POV

I watched out of his bedroom window as Allistor drove away with (Name) and the other three, sighing in relief with the knowledge that they would be all safe, at least for now. I, on the other hand, would be a completely different story. I had to start preparing for the worst in any way that I possibly could. I grabbed my wand and started flipping through his spell book. I knew I wouldn’t have time to set up a barrier spell around the house, but I had to do something to buy some time for the others. I was merely a diversion, after all. Their safety currently rested in my hands, and I had to do anything I could to keep that monster away from them.

No pressure though, I thought grimly to myself. I could already feel a sense of dread and darkness looming over me as I tried to find a spell that would be potent enough to defend myself for the time-being. I hardly flipped through a few pages before the room became darker and the walls echoed with pounding noises. I cursed under my breath as I conjured a ball of fire in the palm of my hand. “Show yourself!” I yelled. I felt the monster’s presence everywhere, watching and waiting to attack. If that monster was going to take me down, it wouldn’t be easy. “Do your worst!” I yelled out.

I watched out of the corner of my eye for any sudden movements around me.  As soon as I saw the shadow within the wall start to emerge, I threw the ball of fire at it. To my surprise, the shadow creature caught it within its own hand and crushed it, causing the fire to go out. “Come now,” the shadow creature said, a smirk appearing on its face as its body starting to form into a solid being. “You’ll have to do much better than that if you want to defeat me.” The creature held up its hand and conjured its own ball of fire before hurling it straight at me. I moved out of the way just before it could hit me, conjuring up more fire balls and flinging it as fast as I could. I watched a couple of them make impact on the creature, but they didn’t seem to hurt him at all.

I stumbled about to regain my footing, but it only caused me to get face to face with the creature. It took a swing at me and I tried to move away from it as quickly as I could, but it had already grabbed me roughly by the hair and lifted me off the ground. I grit my teeth to keep from yelling out in pain. I refused to let this thing get satisfaction out of my pain. The next thing I knew, I was being held against the wall, a white hot pain searing in my head.

The creature smirked and leaned in closer to me. “Where is the girl?” I remained silent, scowling at the creature in a rebellious fashion. “I’ll ask again, where is the girl? You’ll tell me if you value your life.”

“I’m not telling you anything, you bloody monster,” I said. “She’s far away by now, and in safe hands. You’ll never get to her.”

The creature growled and dragged me out of my room, keeping a firm grip on my hair until it threw me over the staircase. My eyes widened and I reached out even though there was nothing to grab or hold onto. I fell onto the floor below, yelling out as my body met the ground. I heard the eerie cracking of my bones before I felt the waves of pain that washed over me. I tried to pull myself up, but pain shot even deeper throughout my arm and leg, making me immobile for the most part. “Dammit…” I tried conjuring another fire ball in my hand, but it went out instantly. I barely had enough energy left to stay conscious, and there was no telling what this creature would do.

I watched as the creature stood over me, glancing down at me with an evil grin plastered onto its face. “If you plan to stay silent, then I’ll have no choice but to exterminate you.” My eyes widened as I watched its hand turn into a sharp, gleaming blade. “But don’t worry; I’ll make sure your death is slow and painful.” The creature brought its arm down swiftly and plunged it into my stomach. I screamed out in pain and my vision was starting to blur and become shift from red to white and slowly to black. The creature took its arm back out only to plunge it back into me and make it slide across my stomach, creating a deep gash.
