" Melody, wake up." Her mother, Dask, chimed, spreading her wings.
" Yeah Mellow! Time for your exile-ceremony!" Her little brother sneered.
" Lark, that isn't what we call it." Dask hissed.
" Mellow! Mellow! Mellow! Your heart is made from jello, you look like a hare when you take to the air, so why don't we just eat 'cha ?" Lark ended akwardly.
" Shut up, featherbrain!" Melody growled and unsheathed her talons, scratching her sleeping-stone with razor precision.
" Everyone who breathes for the tribe come to the the snowy tree for a announcement." Alpha yelped from his perch outside.
" Come'on Melody." Her mother prodded and led her outside, and they merged with the crowd gathering under the snowy oak.
" Melody Whitewater," Alpha, the incredibly elderly leader called for her. " You have come of age and it is time for you to leave the tribe until three full moons shine, after this you may return to the tribe for loyalty will have brought you back." Melody quivered under her dappled pelt, these where the famous ritual words, recited by Alpha for her! " You shall leave the pack and fend for yourself, only then will you know the true feeling of loyalty. Go now, may Everdragon guide you!"
As Melody padded away, she could see that every eye in the tribe was trained on her. And when she padded through the line of trees that marked the end of her territory, she was swamped by an unavoidable sense of lonesomeness. Every bone in her body yelled at her to go back, back to the warmth and comfort of the tribe, but she couldn't.
I must go somewhere I can live for the next three months. She thought as she took to the sky. Ahhh, flying always made her feel better, the wind in her fur, the air under her... SMACK! She whacked into a huge silver shape, with gray wings flapping on the sides.
" What was that for?!" The flying she wolf growled.
" I'm sorry I didn't see you there!" Melody apologized.
" Eh. It was kind of my fault, I wasnt looking where I was flying. What's your name?" The wolf groaned.
" Melody." She meowed.
" Cool, I'm Dawn." Dawn barked. " My pack just threw me out for my ' Loyalty exile'."
" Same!" Melody purred.
" Cool! We can survive together!" Dawn proposed.
" Yeah!" The leopard yelped.
" Lets go find a spot for our camp!" Dawn barked.
And with that the two creature fluttered off, in search of a home.
