Chapter two

" This looks good." Melody confimed and swept down from the clouds, her pads crunched down on thick snow and ice.

" Yup!" Dawn barked and started to scrape away snow from the base of a thick tree.

" I want to see if there is a pond nearby, fish are my favorite prey." Melody licked her jaws.

" Good luck breaking the ice in this cold." The young she-wolf groaned and flopped on the frozen grass.

" We need food even more because of the cold." Melody argued, and spread her wings.

" FIne, go freeze yourself, ill guard camp." Dawn barked stubbornly and buried her snout under her paws.

" Alright, i'll save you some scales." The young swan-leopard joked, and hopped into the air.

Her eyes bore into the earth until she spotted a dark spot in the snow, a lake! She swept down and dive bombed the ice untill it cracked then bashed the last of it away. And, thanking Everdragon for her waterproof pelt and feathers, dove in. The chill of the water was lessened by her thick fur, but it was most certainly freezing! And quickly she found a fat bass, resting sluggishly in a pile of silt, and killed it, bringing it to the surface with much difficulty. As she hauled her prey to the surface she noted how fat and lazy it was for this season." That's odd." she thought, " but it means more prey for us!" She yawned, noticing that the sun had nearly sunk beneath the horizon, and flew home.

" Hey Melody." Dawn greeted her as she landed lightly on the snow. " Come look at who I found, and bring that fish, I bet he's hungry!"

" Oh brother, what- or who has she brought into our home?"

" Meet Chase!" Dawn announced and gestured to a huge brown bear with a red pattern on his back.
