I've always thought there is something very powerful about a well put together game soundtrack, more so than that of a movie. Sat here, my current soundtrack of choice is the one from game Undertale. Just today I bought the game, and I'm beginning to get a feel for its dynamic.
I feel game soundtracks, simply put, are so much better at transporting you away from real life than those from movies. They often have to be able to loop, as the player may just sit there on one screen for ages either trying to decipher a certain event, or as I often do, they may get distracted by something else. For this reason, they have more of a continuing feel to them, whereas tracks from a movie OST have much more of a "start and finish" feel to them. Often (when it is safe to do so), I'll walk to college with my headphones in. Anticipating the events of the day to come, I often stick a track from a game's OST on, and I find it detaches me much more from my anxious feelings than any other musical piece does.
I think I've sussed this one out. In a game, I personally find I develop much more of a bond with the characters and storyline than I do when I watch a film. Maybe it's because in a game you are actually carrying out actions and in some way being involved. When I go back and listen pieces of music from the game, I feel that personal attachment that I developed with the FPC (first person character) and/or other characters in the game, and so that just makes me feel the emotions more.
I don't know. This was very rambling, indeed!
