About Cast Member

Australian director and actor Heath Ledger plays the role of The Joker and has starred alongside fellow actor Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

He also starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the western Brokeback Mountain. This is stated because Jake's sister Maggie Gyllenhaal played the role of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. He even starred in The Patriot with Mel Gibson.

Heath sadly passed away from accidental prescription drug overdose on January 22*, 2008; 6 months before the movie's much anticipated release. Luckily, he finished acting and all that needed to be done was editing. None of his acting in the movie had computerized animations added on to it. Christopher Nolan expressed sorrow; having to go back everyday and edit scenes involving Heath. He was grateful though, because he knew how proud Heath was and felt honoured to be able to work on it.

Heath has a beautiful daughter named Matilda Ledger. She is very energetic and similar in personality compared to him, according to her mother and both of their families. Here's hoping that she becomes an actress and carries on his legacy; voice acting and all that jazz. She would definitely be as talented as her father. <3

Quotes

"I believe...whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you...stranger."

"Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...oh...hehe...aha...ha...ooh...he...haha...aha...and I thought my jokes were bad."

"How 'bout a magic trick?"

"What happened? D'ja balls drop off? Hm?"

"I know the squealers when I see them."

"It's simple, we uh, kill the Batman."

"If you're good at something, never do it for free."

"You wanna know how I got these scars?"

"My father was...a drinker...and a fiend. And one night, he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her...laughing while he does it. He turns to me and he says...Why so serious?! He comes at me with the knife...Why so serious?!?! Sticks the blade in my mouth...Let's put a smile on that face! And...why so serious?"

"So...you think Batman's made Gotham a better place? Hm? Look at me. LOOK AT ME! You see, this is how crazy Batman's made Gotham. You want order in Gotham, Batman must take off his mask and turn himself in. Oh, and, everyday he doesn't, people will die. Starting tonight. I'm a man of my word. Muhehahahahawoohoohoo!"

"We made it! Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We are...tonight's entertainment!"

"You know...you remind me of my father. I hated my father!"

"Well you look nervous. Is it the scars? You wanna know how I got 'em? So I had a wife - she was beautiful, like you - who tells me, I worry too much...who tells me I outta smile more...who gambles and gets in deep with the sharks. One day they carve her face. And we have no money for surgeries. She can't take it. I just wanna see her smile again. I just want her to know that I don't care about the scars. So, I stick a razor in my mouth, and do this to myself. And you know what? She can't stand the sight of me! She leaves. Now I see the funny side. Now I'm always smiling!"

Note

*My birthday is January 23, so every year on the day before my birthday, I am reminded of the death of one of my favourite actors. I feel guilty about celebrating the next day, even though it's for my birthday, because as we all know, on and/or after the anniversary of a death you spend time to grieve. So, that's why I feel guilty.
