"Doc yall stitchin' her up, right?"
The doctor looked at me shaking his head, "No August, but she's gonna have to go in for surgery."
"Why? I took the glass off"
"You took the glass that was located on the skin off and I applaud you for that but Mr. Alsina we got two pieces of glass that are really in there."
"So she needs surgery just for that?"
"Either way she was gonna have surgery to seal that big cut"
I rubbed a hand down my face.
"Can I see her?"
"Oh yes, I'll be in there in a few minutes to move her to inform her of the surgery."
"Thanks doc"
He nodded guiding me to her room. I walked in taking a deep breath.
"Hey bay-bee girl"
She looked at me and let out a small, tiny smile.
"Hey daddy" she said lightly
"How you feeling?"
She shrugged, "the same"
"Anything hurts?"
"Yeah my foot is stinging but I mean the doctor says he's gonna numb it, then put me to sleep."
"You scared"
She shook her head, "I'm actually not scared."
"Well damn. I was gonna call ya mama and--"
"Daddy tell me you didn't call her."
"I didn't."
"Thank you."
"But ya grandmama knows, and uncle Trav, and Auntie Tima, and Auntie ChaCha, and Kayden, and Amaiya, and Chay, and ya mama's mama and ya mama's daddy, and ya uncle DK, and Nisha and--"
"Daddy did you tell em?"
I shook my head, "no, ya grandma Karmin was told by Chris, and then she called my mama, and I'm sure she told everyone"
She sighed "then mama knows"
"It's ight, it's good to know that ya family is there for you"
She didn't say anything. I sat besides her and she laid there looking pale.
"Look Kim, you don't have to be scared"
"I'm not"
"Ya don't have to lie I'm ya daddy so I know your scared"
She looked at me.
"Why do you think I'm scared?"
"Ya pale as hell"
She giggled, "I'm not pale because I'm scared, I'm pale cause its so cold in here"
"I know it's cold, I thought you set it to this temperature" she shook her head,
"no, I didn't, it was like this"
"Don't they have a remo--"
There was a knock on the door and then the doctor appeared.
"Are you ready Ms. Alsina?"
She nodded, "okay, we're gonna give you anesthetic so that you don't feel too much pain, and so that your blood flow, and breathing is controlled during surgery"
