Kavina might sound like a really innocent name, and it is. It's just that it doesn't suit me well. Because I'm a wolf. And it just doesn't sound right... Okay fine let's just get to the main point here, I am short tempered. Yep. But the good thing is that I can control it, I can stay calm and still be nice to someone that had just insulted me.
Being a werewolf is both good and bad, it's just like being a human. But the surprises are more extreme, everything is taken to the next level.
The scenery flies by as our car speeds past. We live in a very small area, far from the city. Getting to school on time was just painful, it took at least 40 minutes to get there by bus. The reason that we didn't choose to live in the city was because it was too noisy, we could barely get any sleep at night. We only have one car, which mom takes to work everyday. Her office is in the city, very far from where we live, sometimes she stays there for the night if she can't make it back. Ash used to have one, well 3 cars actually, until he crashed all of them. After his third car got rammed into the wall, mom got so furious that she said he had to pay for his own car if he wanted another one.
Thank goodness mom is a lawyer.
Van Cortlandt Park whizzes pass in a flash, a shiver runs down my spine as old memories travel to my mind, both good and bad. Van Cortlandt Park is a place where I go very often to improve my running skills. I do track at school, suggested by Ash one day when we went jogging together. I guess being a werewolf has its perks.
Moms voice startles me as it brings me out of my trance. "Are you excited to attend a new school?"
Her excitement scares me, it almost feels like she's the one attending a new school.
I turn my head, facing her. Wrinkles form on the side of her eyes as a smile tugs upon her lips. Grey hair poking out here and there, between her brunette strands that's pulled into a loose ponytail.
Mother has sure aged a lot, she couldn't even get enough sleep these few days because of this move.
"I actually don't know." I whispered quietly, knowing it's loud enough for her to hear. Nervousness enters my body as I look down at my hands that are placed in the centre of my lap and start picking at my nails.
I've never made any friends back home, so I don't think it's all that exciting to attend a new school. 90% guaranteed it will be the same. And I am definitely not looking forward to that.
"You should. This time it's different, it's an Academy." My head automatically rises at the word.
"Academy?" I raised my brows.
I've never studied at an academy before. Mom did suggest it a few times, but I said no. I liked being in a normal school.
"It's the closest to home, the streets in Sleepy Hollow are very cragged, so I didn't want to pick a school for you that's far." She said with an unfeigned smile, taking a glance at me before adjusting her vision back on the road.
I silently groan, making sure she doesn't hear it.
"I don't want to study at an academy mom. I want to go to a normal school, even if it's far. I can just take the bus" I assured her, returning a smile. "If you really think about it, it isn't even necessary for me to go there, just because it's close to home. And it's also too expensive."
"I know you don't like academies. And it is necessary. You will attend the academy, the end."
"But—" I tried to argue.
"No buts, you'll do as I say, Kavina. Don't get on my nerves." She warned.
"Mom—"
"No."
