My mind is blank as I stare out the window. Messy white sheets lay beneath me, tangled together by my wild movements. I hug my legs closer to my chest, sitting there, being shone down on by the moonlight.
It's currently 4am and I'm struggling to get some shuteye. So much has happened yesterday.
I look down at my wrist, examining the tattoo. Why was she looking at it like she knew something about it?
I scan the room, cold and distant. Nothing like where I used to live. The centre of the room is placed a queen sized mattress, with only a sheet and a duvet cover. I didn't bother to unpack yesterday, it was already dark when I got home. Besides, not all of our furniture has completed arrived yet. Why rush?
My eyes land on something shiny and silver. A hopeless sigh leaves my mouth as the memory replays through my mind. I can't help but to chuckle.
Before I know it, my feet are already on thehard wooden floor, creaking and groaning at every step I take. I hurry over to the suitcase and lift it up in one swift motion before making my way back to the mattress.
I unzip it slowly, a small wheel comes to my view, sitting on the layers of neatly folded clothes.
I fish it out and put it on the side of my mattress. I'll ask for my brother's screwdriver when it's morning.
I look outside the window and find that it's still dark, the moon is still hanging in the same place since the last time I looked.
A letter drops out in between my clothes as I fiddle with them. A shiver rolls down my spine as I stare at it.
The letter was from my real mother, the werewolf that went through 9 months of pain just for me. It has been with me ever since I was a baby, just like the tattoo. However I have never planned on reading it.
But since I've already kept it till this day, I might as well just open it.
I never thought I had the courage to ever do it. You'll never know what surprises you'll get from it. Which makes it harder for me to read it since I never really fancied surprises.
I take in a deep breath and tear it open.
The envelope unseals and the letter slides out. My eyes catch the neatly cursive writing as I begin to unfold it.
Dearest Kavina,
My love for you is eternal; there is not another person in this world I will love more than I love you. I understand that this letter might not be opened till you're older, because of your fear and denial. Which I completely will understand. So this letter was prepared for your older self.
Forgive me for abandoning you at such a young age, I know it was very irresponsible of me to do so. But It was not a decision to be made by me, I was forced to, there was no other way anymore. At that time, my only thought was to keep you safe. You must understand. It hurts so much to leave you behind, yet till this day, it still does. My only goal in life is to protect you, keeping you hidden from the dangerous world that's out there.
Ever since I gave birth to you, I was always on the run. Escaping them was impossible, especially when I had you. But a few days after your birth, I came across a Magic shop. The lady there was kind enough to help me, she gave you a special tattoo and laced it with a cloaking spell, which keeps you hidden from the supernatural world. It hides your scent so others won't notice the strong werewolf smell on you.
After I left you, I was still worried, even when you had that tattoo, so I faked our death to make sure you were fully safe. The enemies knew where we stayed, and I took advantage of it. I lit our home when they surrounded the place. All of them were there. And they saw it with their own eyes that you and I died in a fire.
