"Hurry up Kavina! I need to be at work in 20 minutes. If you don't come down now, there won't be enough time for me to drop you off!" I could hear the frustration in her voice as she shouts from downstairs.

It seems that I woke up late this morning. I swear I had set my alarm clock. But apparently it decided to not go off.

"Okay, mom I'm coming! Wait!" I replied, shouting back. I messily pulled my straightened hair into a high ponytail before grabbing my backpack and heading downstairs.

Straightening thick hair is hell, especially when you've woken up late.

I take a quick glance at the mirror on the wall as I pass it, making sure there's nothing unwanted that's stuck on my face. I've got to admit, the school uniform is quite nice. We could wear any kinds of shoes as long as they're black. And so I, Kavina Aelin had to go with a pair of black converse.

"Come on! I'm going to be late for work!" She nags, hand gesturing me to get inside the car, the engine was already roaring with energy.

I exhaled before running over, shutting the door behind me and getting into the car.

"You covered up your tattoo?"

Her voice makes me turn my head towards her before I take a glance at my wrist.

"Um. Yeah. I thought it might not be school appropriate." I lied.

There was a short pause before she finally decided to speak. "Good."

Sleepy Hollow Academy stands before me once again. No students are longer outside. It's my first day and I'm already late. Nice job Kavina.

Mom has already left and wished me luck. The weather today isn't that great, which yet again creates a nice background for the building. Mist surrounds it, creating an eerie look. How perfect do they go together? I wish I could just run back home and hide under my covers. But this is reality and I'm forced to face it. Blame my biological mother for abandoning me.

I make my way up the small steps and stop in front of the double doors, feeling slightly nervous.

Weak sounds come from the inside, students share their weekends and other things. My fists ball up as I convince myself that I can do it. And that I will survive the first day and the last few months of junior year. And of course, senior year is well. Duh.

I gulp before pushing the doors. It flies open and comes in contact with the wall, a loud bang echoes down the hallway, capturing every students attention. I guess I used too much strength. Oops.

A stench engulfs my nose, I scrunch it up as my eyes squeezes shut, trying to fan away the smell. Ew.

It was the same smell from the day I went to pick up my uniform. Maybe it's just this building, I mean, it is quite old.

My eyes widen in embarrassment as I realised what just happened. Every single pair of eyes stares at me. Some look at me with disgust, some smiling and some... just totally not interested. I personally don't like big crowds of people and attention, so this is pretty much giving me an anxiety attack.

I take a few steps inwards, the grasp on my backpack straps tighten. The doors shut closed behind me, making me jump a little.

A few students start to whisper, I couldn't help but to eavesdrop.

Is that the new girl?

Bexley has competition coming her way, this is going to be good.
