"YOU DID WHAT?" Dan roars from across the living room as I sit with Claire on the sofa.

I knew in the pit of my stomach it was a bad idea to tell overprotective Dan about my sudden love life, but happened to just do it anyways. Dan paces around the living area and I start to become nervous.

Phil trails behind, trying to reason with the dark haired man, "Amber is 17! Look at Claire." Claire smiles to showcase her white teeth as Phil gestures to us. I fold my hands in front of myself and curl into the side of the couch.

"Claire is in a complete different social situation than Amber and I just don't think she is ready," Dan argues, lowering his voice while twiddling his thumbs.

I roll my eyes as I lean into Claire's shoulder. "Oh thanks."

Claire punches the side of my rib as I stare my father dead in the eyes. Phil interrupts our glances by stepping between our gap, "Claire, you heard Dan. Maybe you aren't ready."

Claire and I both let out a whine as Dan walks into the kitchen. Grabbing a hand full of the M&M's sitting on the counter, he nods in agreement. "Ha! You heard him Amber!"

Claire rolls her eyes as she stands up from the couch. "How old are you Dan?" Dan rolls his eyes before Claire continues, "Besides, the point is-"

I tip my head back in frustration. If Claire ever starts her sentence with 'Besides, the point is,"- you know she is about to give a long, pointless speech. She claims to be practicing for her Debate Club, but I honestly think she enjoys annoying the hell out of me.

"I think Amber is old enough to make her own decisions. I mean sure, she might fuck up-"

"Language," Phil warns.

Claire rolls her eyes, "Anyways, yes she will mess up once or twice. That's how people learn- is from their mistakes. If you never give her the chance to make a mistake,  how will she ever learn?"

Dan groans from his spot in the kitchen as he damn well knew Claire was right for once. I clap for her winning speech as Phil looks to Dan desperately.

Skitting towards Phil, Dan argues quietly so Claire and I can't hear. We exchange confused glances as I bite my freshly painted nails.

Turning towards us, Dan sighs heavily as Phil's face lights up. I crossed my fingers behind my back as Dan opened his mouth to speak to us. "After long hard debates, we will let you go on this date-" Claire and I both break out in squeals.

"Okay okay, I get it. Best Dad of the year award," Dan speaks up as our faces fall into faint smiles.

I engulf him in a hug as Phil joins in from behind me. "You won't regret it, I promise."
