I stare at my fair complexion in the large bathroom mirror, wiping the fallout eyeshadow which had landed on my cheek. Playing with my long blonde locks once more, I decide to give up on my frustrations and let the fresh curls be. Tonight was the date and I was beginning to sweat as nerves bundled up in the pit of my stomach.

Walking into my bedroom, I head straight for my closet as I dig through the many items on multiple shelves. "Dad!" I call out as the pitter patter of footsteps echo down the hallway to my bedroom.

Phil appears in the doorway and leans against the supporting wall as I stare back it him in frustration. "I'm in a serious dilemma as I don't know how to dress myself," I complain, sinking down onto the hardwood flooring. Phil chuckles with a sigh as he enters my bedroom, placing himself beside me on the floor.

I throw my options across the hardwood as Phil plays with the hem of my pyjama pant leg. He sorts through my many clothes, layering and matching options as I rest my head against his shoulder. Holding patterns up to my chest, he throws them to the side in disgust.

The sun seems to fall fast when I stare out my large bedroom window as the orange sky begins to light up with city traffic. I start to shake as my anxiety  get the best of me, knowing it was closer to meeting Chris. Phil places a hand on top of my knee, settling my nerves as I lightly smile at him. He readjusts his thin rimmed glasses looking over towards me. "I'm fine, really." I bluff, steadying my voice. Thankfully he shrugs it off.

In a mere second, Phil practically flies across the room towards my closet, finding a shorter skirt which had been bundled up and forgotten. "It's perfect," I say, grabbing it from his large hands.

He beams from ear to ear, satisfied with his work. "Nice try Phil, but we don't need her looking like that on the first date," I hear Dan's voice call, meeting his gaze at the foot of my door.

I can practically feel my eyes roll out of my head at Dan's remark as he readjusts his arms to fold across his chest. He raises an eyebrow my way as I mimic his simple movements. Phil rests his hands on my shoulders from behind me and I can feel his annoyance burn through my skin. "Why not?" Phil protests, holding his ground.

"It's too short!" Dan argues, raising his voice slightly.

As Dan begins to start the argument with his husband, I quickly slip back in my bathroom to change. A plain blue skirt and white cardigan was in my palms as I set the outfit down on my counter. I quickly change then give myself one more look in the mirror. I was finally satisfied with my appearance for once as I flick the bathroom lights off,  heading back to the commotion which has moved itself into the kitchen.

"Would you stop being so over dramatic-" Phil argues, a spatula waving in front of Dan's nose.

"Well, aren't you at least going to say goodbye?" I tease, stepping from behind the hallway wall to reveal myself. Both Dan and Phil stand before me wide eyed, as I stare down at my feet with a blush rising across my cheeks. "You look stunning Amber," Dan whispers as Phil lets a small smirk of satisfaction slide across his face.

I run over and high five Phil before pulling them both in for an embrace. I let go, grabbing my purse and jacket from the hooks near the front door and turn back to my parents with a faint smile resting along my face. "Now, I hope to be home soon and will call later on-" I start, knowing Dan would jump in.

"No later than ten Amber! You hear me?" I nod as my eyes roll towards the front door.

"Make that eleven! Don't listen to your crazed father," Phil chimes in as I giggle in the entry way.

"Phil! We've talked about this-" I hear Dan argue, closing my apartment door behind me.

I skip down the many stairs to reach the front lobby, stepping out into the cold September breeze of bustling London. I waltz my way across the sidewalks, killing my spare time by window shopping in the few stores around my area. I finally become bored with myself and decided to wait with a warm drink at the coffee shop.

Opening the door, I feel the warm breeze as a pleasant aroma tingles my senses. My purse has been buzzing ever since I left the apartment and I grab my phone to see the screen lighting up with calls and texts from Dan. I ignore them as I step in line to order my usual dark roast coffee with a hint of milk and sugar. As I reach the till to give my order, the barista laughs at me while giving me a look of his gorgeous teeth. "A hint? I've never heard of something so unique." His American accent took my off guard as I step closer to the till.

I raise my eyebrow while leaning over the counter, "Maybe I'm just a unique person-" I scan down his chest to find his name tag-"Luke."

His smile seems to brighten as I pass him my money with a large smirk across my face. "So what is a pretty girl like yourself doing all alone in the busy streets of evening London?" He asks, trying to strike up a flirtatious conversation.

I shrug my shoulders slightly, as he passes my coffee across the counter. "I'm supposed to be meeting this guy for a date, but we will just see how it goes," I sigh, opening the lid of my cup to blow on the warm substance. "I would like to ask, why is an American beauty like yourself working at Starbucks in the streets of evening London?"

He chuckles, running his hands through his ashy blonde hair to push it back into place. God, he was just as gorgeous as Chris. He has large brown eyes which contrasted with his hair colour and a beautiful smile which lit up the room. I stared up at him in awe as he leaned over the counter to meet eyes with me. "It keeps a roof under my head. I'm trying to book a few gigs and things to sing at which so far has been going okay. The dream is to be singing for anyone who loves to hear," He explains, wiping the small space in front of me to look productive.

I would love to hear you all night long, I think and quickly shove my creepy thoughts out of my head. I nod as I grab my coffee to walk away. "It was really nice talking with you Luke," I smile, waving towards him.

"It was my pleasure..." He starts, realizing he didn't even know my name.

"Amber," I finish, giggling.

"Well, Amber if the date doesn't seem to go quite as planned, I close up at ten," He suggests winking my way, sliding a paper napkin across the counter. I pick it up to read a phone number as I look back up to see his blushing face.

I nod once more, smiling like an idiot. "Well, I'll just be sitting in the corner like so you'll also know where to find me."
