Phil's hand was shaking as I grasped onto it, heading up the large concrete stairs. I could hear his teeth chattering from where I stood and turn to face him, tightening my grasp on his hand.

"This is what we've been waiting for," I whisper, leaning in close to nuzzle in his neck.

He turns over to me, as I see his eyes tear up. "Ever since you were 17, we wanted to grow up and raise a family. What if I'm not ready?"

"You will be the best father any child would ask for. What do you have to loose, Daddy?" I smirked as his face turned bright red.

"Shut up you kinky tease," He gave me a quick, reassuring smile before pressing his finger against the doorbell, waving his hand in front of his face as it returns back to the pale white I always adored.

Appearing in front of us was a larger woman, with flowing red hair and bright pink cheeks. Her makeup was tacky and colorful, bright red lips and blue eyes flashing in front of our faces. Phil and I both glanced nervously at each other before I stretched out my hand. "Hi, I'm Daniel and this is my partner Phil."

The plump women avoided my gesture as she raised an eyebrow at Phil. "Certification?" I stumbled as I reached in my jean pocket to grab the small envelope, enclosing our information and government certification. Hardly taking a glance, she waved us inside.

I followed Phil in the large grey foyer to reveal long hallways at every angle, where the bedrooms must be placed. No place for any child. No happiness, sunlight, color, toys, I should have taken more for granted.

Leaning over to Phil I cracked a joke to settle his nerves, "She took all the color out of the building and stuck it on her face." He slapped my arm, giving me a shocked smile. While we were touring the abandoned facility, I was starting to get just as anxious as Phil. What if the kids didn't like me? What if the grew up strictly Christian? I just wanted to take one home and love them with all my heart.

Finally, we were placed in a small room with a desk and fold down chairs. Phil was given profiles of children from ages 2-5. I glanced at a few of the options and went to point at a little blonde girl, when Phil already had his heart set on her. Ripping the profile from my hands, he threw it at her.

"We like her."

She sat quietly, staring at us. "So, Amber, whats your favourite color?" Amber's feet barely hung over the tall chair as she desperately tried to swing them.

Her oversized rag clothing hung over her and her longer blonde hair was messy and unbrushed. The whole thing depressed me and Phil was getting impatient and wanted to take her home already.

"Black!" She exclaimed. Phil laughed, and I gave her a wide smile. "We love her."

{A/N: Okay so, just the flashback and such is in Dan's POV. The rest will be in Amber's. Also, italics will be no more}
