*Chapter One*

"Nathan Reginelli?" the teacher called out. I can't believe in high school they still call role. They should know once we hit high school, we'll be skipping. It's a well-known fact.

"Here!" Nathan raised his hand from the front of the room. Nathan is such a sweetheart. Even though he is the nerdiest guy at our school, I love to hang out with him. He's actually a really brilliant guitar player. We've even done some covers together on his YouTube channel. He's absolutely amazing and he loves my voice. I have no idea why.

The next name came up. "Brittany Taylor?" I looked around for the purple haired girl who I call the funniest girl in class. I used to hang out with her all the time, but since she has gymnastics, we barely see each other. "Here." She raised her left hand from the third row and flashed a toothy smile. She really is great.

"Dianne Welch?" Dianne was sitting in the very back with a bottle of nail polish open on her desk. "Here, but I'm not raising my hand," she said in a diva-ish tone. I haven't really gotten to know Dianne because she told me not to make the effort. I usually don't listen to people when they say that because I want to befriend everyone. Everyone is really kind in this class, even when they put on those little acts.

"Steven Summer?" Steven tossed a little paper plane at me and flashed a grin. He might be a jock, but he can surely write beautiful poetry. You'd never think he could do it if I told you, but if you read it, you would be shocked. "Present." I unfolded the plane and on it was the poem he read to me last night when we were on the phone. Yes, I have everyone's numbers. Other than Dianne's of course. I will get it one day though. Watch me.

"Julia McGehee?" Julia's red hair was no where to be seen. She is usually so preppy in the mornings, but I don't know. She isn't here. A sharp knock was at the door and through the window, you could see her. Her fiery hair was all over the place, but she still looked beautiful. "Tardy again, I see," Mrs. Heaven said. Julia smiled sheepishly before walking to her seat, four down from mine.

"Elizabeth Richards?" I raised my hand wuickly, flaunting it around. "Here, Mrs. Heaven!" She smiled brightly at me and some of the class laughed. I don't mind it though. Everyone here loves me. I've known them all since kindergarten. "Today's lesson will be on global warming." We all groaned. Looks like a slow day to me.

Steven and I were standing at our lockers. We're locker neighbors and he loves to sign the whiteboard on my door. It always has some deep quote or poem on it and I love it. "So, do you really like that poem?" he asked me as he shut his locker door. "Of course! It's so well written. Great job, Steven." I smiled and hugged him tightly, showing that I really did love the poem. If you would've read it, you would cry. It was absolutely beautiful.

The lunch bell rang and as soon as it did, Nathan came running up. "Let's go, Beth!" he said excitedly. I smiled at the boy with rectangular rimmed glasses. He looks adorable in them. He linked his arm with mine and drug me towards the cafeteria. "I'm so hungry," I moaned, clutching my wailing stomach. "Whoa, Beth. It sounds like a dying whale in your tummy." Nathan poked at my stomach, making me laugh.

"I love how you're extremely ticklish." I laughed as we joined the lunch line. Today they're serving spaghetti and I am o excited. Lunch Lady Britt makes perfect spaghetti and lasagne. You can never get enough! I got a big plate of spaghetti, a fruit salad, and a brownie before moving towards the table. You had to weave through all of the students, but other than that it was perfectly safe. I sat down, sticking my fork in the spaghetti quickly. My stomach begged and begged for food loudly. It really does sound like a dying whale.

Not too long after I had sat down, Nathan joined me. Followed by Brittany. "Hey, Britt!" I said, hugging her across the table. She usually sits with her gymnastic friends, but I don't mind. She's happy. "That looks so good," she said, dipping her finger in my spaghetti sauce. "Why didn't you get some?" "I have to lose weight for the upcoming competition." She pouted, but took a bite out of it anyway. I guess you could say that we're so close, we'll eat using the same utensil. Well, we are.

Nathan stole a grape from my salad and I pouted, hitting his hand playfully. "Bad, Nathan." He smiled and stuck it between his perfect teeth. It's like he came from a Colgate Toothpaste commercial. Our table got quiet as we all ate our meals. The spaghetti was by far the best part. What? It's an addiction.

Once the bell rang, I chugged down my water, making my way towards the trash can. "You are so lucky I'm not mean," Steven mumbled beside me. I laughed and threw my empty tray and water bottle in the cylinder trash can. "What do you mean?" I asked as we walked back towards our lockers. "If I was mean, I would've tickled you while you drank that water." I gasped dramatically, hitting his forearm. "Maybe I am lucky!"

We stopped at our lockers and gathered our books. "Almost out of school for the day," he groaned. "I know! Today has been so freaking slow." He smiled over at me as we began walking to our next class. Which was English. My favorite subject.

The bell finally rang, signalling for us to go home. I was so eager to get to the library for some reason. I can't exactly explain it. I'm just excited. I tossed my backpack strap over one shoulder and powerwalked all the way to the door. The hallway was filled with the many conversations shared with the students. Weaving my way through everyone, I stumbled around. It was hard to get through everyone at the end of the day because we all have to be somewhere.

Once I arrived at my locker, I stored my books inside, but took out all the ones I had homework on. Ugh, stupid homework. I finally finished and shut the locker door, weaving back towards the entrance doors. So many people were talking and their volume would pick up, causing shouts to echoe through the hallway. Once I got to the doors, I squeezed between two girls and I was out. Thank goodness. I practically ran to my car and once I was inside, I started it up quickly.

I am just so ready to get to the library. I feel like something's going to happen, like a new release or something. I just feel excited for something. I pulled out of the parking lot carefully and I was on my way. The library isn't but twenty minutes away from the high school, which is a big plus for me. That just means it's closer to home. I go to the library everyday after school. That's just a special place for me.

Once I pulled into the lot beside the library, I shut the car off and hopped out quickly. I literally ran towards the double doors that lead to the library's romance section. That's my favorite section really. Once I stuck my secret key I got from the librarian in the lock, I heard a beeping behind me. The car that was making the sharp noises was a strange black Audi that I don't recognize. The windows were tinted to where I couldn't see the owner of the car, so I just ignored him and turned the key, walking inside. Of course I locked the door behind me, but my mind kept travelling to that car.

If only I could see the resident inside of it. I was walking through the romance section, the third row. I had to put on my wide-rimmed glasses and as I did so someone bumped into me, causing me to fall right on my rear. "I am so sorry," I began apologising quickly, my face flushed red with embarrassment. I haven't looked up yet, but the person which bumped into me sounds scary. "It's alright, love. No worries.."
