Chapter 7
‘A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down.’
Arnold Glasow
“Alexia!” she screamed. “What on earth have you done to my hair?!”
Alexia threw her hands onto her head, offended. "Me?! What could I have possibly done?!"
"Well, you were snuggling up to Ackiar and you looked so cute-"
She looked at the ground, blushing slightly. "You saw that?"
"-I didn't want to wake you up, so I just used your shampoo anyway..."
"Wait... My shampoo? The one with the blue liquid?"
"Well, yeah..."
Alexia stifled a giggle. Laughing slightly, she gave Sinny a pitiful look. Sinny's eyes narrowed in return.
"Um, well… you know our food shortage problem?"
"And that's got to do with my hair, how?!"
"Let me finish! I've been thinking that if we got, say a bit of bark, changed its shape and its colour, it would be more appetizing if we ran out of food. I wanted to create that purply-colour of beetroot, so obviously I need blue and red-"
"We're talking about my hair here! It's hideous!" she sobbed, slightly muffled by the curtains of blue hair pulled in front of her face. She let go of them and sat up straight, seeing red. "Just tell me what the bloody hell happened for Gods sake! And Kallee, you shut up!"
As soon as the words came out of her mouth, Kallee fell silent.
"I didn't have a spare bottle and we'd run out of shampoo," Alexia continued. "So I just put it in the shampoo container until I got some red to mix..."
Kallee just burst into a laughing fit again.
"You what?! And when were you planning to inform me?!"
"I was meaning to tell everyone... But I guess I forgot..."
A couple of tears filled Kallee's sparkling eyes, "Someone grab me some popcorn!" she laughed, enjoying every moment of the drama.
"Forgot?! I can't believe you! How do you 'forget'?! This is great. Just great. We're in war, Ackiar's unconscious, I'm in a fight with my best friend and now my hair's friggin' blue! What next?!"
"I'm sorry..." she mumbled, ashamed of herself.
"My hair - the only part of me I liked! And you had to go ruin it! I swore that I'd never dye it!"
"It's only temporary!.. I think..."
"You think?!"
"Well I made it non-toxic so we can eat it so it should wash out eventually..."
"It better!"
"I said I'm sorry..."
Sinny screeched with frustration, and fell back onto her pillow.
Why when I have a perfect day, it ends up getting ruined? she thought, running a hand through her now-blue hair. Why always me?
"Karma." a voice inside her head said.
She groaned and threw the sheet from her hair down at Kallee (who definitely hadn't recovered yet), trying to shut her stupid giggling up.
