(Roree's POV.)
She wasn't here. She wasn't at her house. She wasn't anywhere.
That's what had me worried.
Her phone was turned off and no one has seen her all day. Who am I talking about you might ask? Tessa. She can be very selfish and everyone hates that about her. Especially after what has happened to Kaira.
I went to her favorite spot in the house that she lived in. The attic. I still didn't know where she was. I looked around town everywhere. When i finally did find her, she was at the edge of the city. She was in a field that we all used to hang out in after school for about an hour before our parents could come and pick us up. This is where homework was done, where things that happened school were discussed. Where anything and everything were talked about. Let out in the open.
Fights occurred here. But not fist fights, just yelling matches between sisters and best friends. Those kinds of fights were broken up by whoever was in the middle and everyone would hug it out.
This was our spot and it felt weird for there to be only two of us here rather than three.
"Tessa, what are you doing here?" I whispered, but I knew she heard me. The slight movement of her shoulders told me she was startled. Someone who didn't know her as well as I did wouldn't have even noticed the slight change in her mood.
" Oh, you know, reminiscing about good times, bad times. That kinda thing." She sounded so sure of what she was saying. It was as if we had already lost her. Already lost Kaira.
"What do you mean? You do realize that she's still alive. She's still breathing, she still has a heart beat, she even has her brain waves active still." I say while sitting down next to her in the thick grass. Grass that was a dark color green, while will soon turn brown and then die off, leaving the ground crisp instead of soft, heavy instead of light.
"Yeah I know but for how long? How long will she still be here? How long until her brainwaves do stop and her heart doesn't want to beat on its own?" Her voice started to go strained, she was on the verge of tears and I knew that she probably wants to be left along to do that, but I just couldn't find the energy to get up. I heard my phone start to chime, meaning I was getting a phone call.
I looked at the number and it was Tessa and Kaira's parents. They never call me. They have never called me, i was always the one to call them.
I answered the phone knowing that it was probably important.
"Hello?" I say lightly in to the phone.
"Yes, Roree, have you found Tessa?" I hear from the other end. How did they even know she was missing? It wasn't like I told them.
"Yes, I've found her." Tessa looks towards me, silently questioning me.
"Okay, you guys need to get to the hospital. There's something we need to tell you, but it's better told in person." Her voice was calm, collected. And I didn't like it. I couldn't tell if it was bad news or good news.
"Okay." Then she hung up.
"We have to go Tess, your mom called saying we have to go. She wants you home." I lie.
"I have ears, I heard what she said. We have to get to the hospital. " She gets up and starts walking to my car. Then she turns around and looks at me. "Are you coming or are you just going to sit there?"
I get up then and we get to the car and drive to the hospital. I don't know whats going to happen when we pass through those doors, or when we get to the level she's on, or even when we enter the rooms she in. I don't know what's going to happen.
And that scares me more than anything else.
