I jerk up from a bad nightmare. I won't got into details, but it was about my mom and dad being freaks. I had killed them all over again, then the dream changed and I was running for the freaks, but no mater how fast I tried to run, I could never run fast enough, or kept tripping. I think all of us have had those dreams. Then right before the freaks got me, I woke up. Thank goodness that was only a dream.
I look over at Cody and Annabell, who were snuggled together in a ball still asleep. It was maybe seven in the morning, and there were still some diseased freaks on the ground, so I tried to go back to sleep. When I wake up again, I see Cody and Annabell tossing something back and forth.
Cody was facing me, so he was the one to see me wake, "Hey sleepy head. Nice to see you finally up."
"What time is it?" I rub the sleep out of my eyes.
"Maybe nineish." Cody scratches his head, then the, what I determined was some sort of fruit, hit Cody in the face, "OUCH! Annabell! I was not ready!"
Annabell bust into laughter. She thought it was the funniest thing that she had just hit Cody's face. It makes me smile to see them smiling, even though things are bad.
"Okay guys, we need to keep moving." I finally say.
"And find Lindsey!" Annabell says excitedly.
"Yeah, let's go!" Cody says pumped.
Since there was no many freaks, it was easy to sneak passed them. We head to the fields. They were taller, so it was a little easier to hide in. I could barely see over the corn stalks, and I was 6'1. Cody and Annabell relied on me to tell them if I saw anything. Once or twice I thought I saw something, and told them to get down, then we would wait. Once I thought it was clear we moved on. There was not much talking between us, just in case. What supized me the most is that I have not seen one diseased freak all day. It was to weird, to.... suspicious. Something was up. This is Kansas, the place with nothing, and lots of freaks. Where were they all? Not that I wanted them, but still it was weird, too weird. I almost did not want to keep walking. I hear some ruffling of the stokes, which weirdly relives me. Until I hear a bang, and Cody scream bloody murder.
I whip around, "CODY!!"
He had been shot in the leg, and fell to the ground covering his mouth, and breathing deep through his nose. Blood gushed out of his leg. This is not good! This is not good!
"Erik?" Cody looks at his leg and tears role down his face, "Tell Lindsey I tried."
"No don't give up Cody, please."
I found myself crying by Cody's leg, holding it to try and stop the bleeding."Umm Erik.." Annabell tugs on my shirt, "F...f..freaks coming."
"Cody get on my back."
"No! Kill me! I will only slow you down, and attract them."
"I am not leaving you!"
"I am not asking!" I had no choice. I thrust Cody over my shoulder, "Put me down! Leave me!"
"Come on Annabell!" We take off running.
Freaks were all around us. Cody was right, we could not go on like this. I don't want to think about it, but if I don't kill Cody, then we will all die. I stop running, and put Cody down.
"What are you doing Erik?" Annabell stops running, "They are coming."
"Cody, we WILL find your sister, and I will NEVER let her die."
"Thank you. Now do it. I am ready." I raised my gun to Cody's head. He closes his eyes, and so do I. BANG!
"Bye brother... Come on Annabell we have to go." And we take off again with tons of freaks behind us.
