The Next day at school I spent the whole time avoiding Tyler, he pissed me off so much.
Shop, I skipped and went to Starbucks. I just watched parents come in and out seeing which drinks sold the most.
When 40 minutes passed I headed back to school and sat in Chem.
"Hey." Jace smiled plopping his stuff next to me.
"Hey!" I smiled excited to see a friendly face. "Tyler came over for dinner yesterday."
I saw Jace's smile fall a bit.
"He was horrible." I said. "Our parents knew eachother! I had no idea!"
"Sounds bad enough." Jace commented.
"He called you a dweeb." I exclaimed, then quickly regretted telling him that.
"Maybe I am." He said his eyes darkening. He turned back around in his chair.
"Jace I-"
"Class open your notes from yesterday and turn to page 354 in your text book."
--
"Chem was torturing." I said to Bambi at Lunch.
I got tired of sitting under the tree in the court yard.
"But i mean why Jace?" Bambi asked.
I paused to think about that too...
"Because he's real." I said.
"Explain." She said.
"I think that people think he's emotionally unstable, because his feelings, they come from somewhere real..." I trailed off seeing him sit down alone at his old table.
"Well I'm gonna go." I said picking my apple and bag up and heading over to his table.
He looked up at me and back down.
As I was walking across the cafeteria i could feel tylers glare on my back.
"Can I sit?" I asked Jace across the table.
He nodded.
So I walked all the way around the table and sat next to him. He looked surprised at that.
"I'm so so sorry." I told him with pleading eyes.
"It's ok, I mean it's true."
"No it's not-"
"I'm a 17 year old that supports his own family, my mom is a crackhead, and I have a younger brother to take care of, I work 3 jobs to pay for rent and groceries, and I had no childhood, my dad beat me when I was younger, but i still forgave him like some damn puppy, I finally got tired of being hit so i told a friend and they told their mom, and thats how my dad ended up in jail. My own mother testified for him. She never loved me." He said quietly.
That was the most I'd ever heard him say.
"Jace I-"
"There's nothing to say." He said looking at me finally, "There's nothing-" he stopped and took a deep breath, "To say."
I couldn't help myself then, I leaned in and kissed Jace grabbing his face to bring him in closer to me. He seemed surprised at first, and then complied by wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing back.
This is how it should always be.
I heard someone clear their throat and I looked over.
It was Tyler's friend Gary.
"Yes?" I said clearly annoyed.
"Tyler wants to talk to you." He said.
Jace let go of me and leaned back. I quickly grabbed his hand under the table squeezing it in reasurance.
"This isn't preschool. We don't send our friends. If he wants to talk to me, he can come up to me and say so."
Gary started laughing and walked back to tease Tyler probably.
"Don't worrie about him." I smiled to Jace, "He won't be a problem."
