I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO HARRY POTTER. All the characters, spells, potions, locations, etc. we're created by J.K. Rowling. The only character I created is Iris Howard. Okay, you may continue.

Iris's First Year:

Feather in hand, I walked into Flitwick's charms class. I was already two months into my first year at Hogwarts and we were already learning to levitate objects. In the middle of the chaotic herd of students, I made my way to the desks to seat myself

"Remember, swish and flick!" Professor Flitwick hollered.

As the short and stout professor looking over the roster, we all attempted to levitate our feathers. Attempted. Flitwick expected too much from the bunch of first years. The only feather that managed to levitate came from my roommate Hermione Granger. Several students including myself were amazed by her performance, others like Ron Weasley scoffed and murmured rude comments under their breath.

Flitwick congratulated Hermione for her hard work. During Flitwick's speech I heard the faint voice of an Irish boy trying to achieve the spell. His eyes kept shifting between the professor and his feather, losing focus on the spell itself. With no warning, a loud bang and a cloud of smoke had cut off Flitwick and injured the Irish Gryffindor.

"Professor,"Harry Potter said in a small voice, "I think we're going to need another feather over here."

"Oh now you've done it!" Flitwick cried out to the boy. "Iris Howard," the small man called out. I lifted my head out from my charms book as Flitwick called my name. "Iris, please, take Mr. Finnigan to the hospital wing."

"Yes, Professor," I answered. The Irish boy and I shifted out of our seats, hurrying over to the exit as we made our way to the hospital wing.

We walked silently down the corridor and towards the hospital wing. Neither one of us said a thing or made a noise. However, I tried my best not to laugh at the ashes on his face and his hair blown back from the explosion. I also tried my best not to notice the boy taking small glances at me. We walked past the boys restroom when I saw red-headed twins by the name of Fred and George Weasley come out with a screwdriver, laughing as they scurried out the door.

I stopped walking, crossing my arms as I glared at the twins. The boy stopped until he realized I wasn't next to him anymore. "Sneaking out of class to do your shenanigans again, I see," I called out to the red-headed boys. One of them, Fred, stopped in his tracks and turned to me.

"Stalking us, are you Howard?" Fred smirked.

"You wish, Weasley," I scoffed. "What are you two lunatics doing anyway?"

"Just unscrewing slippery toilet seats." George waved the screwdriver in front of his face for me to see, holding back a childish giggle.

"You should be aware that someone could get you caught."

The twins approached walked over to where I was standing, practically towering over me. They were rather tall boys and I was almost five feet tall.

"Is that a threat, Howard?" they asked in unison.

"'Cause if it is, I don't think you have the back bone to  snitch on us." Fred bent down, finally my height, a smirk across his face. With no hesitation, my fist collided with his upper arm. "Ow!"

I looked at them angrily and they looked at me annoyed. And finally, they cracked. The two of them busted up laughing, and I soon joined, unable to go a second longer with this act.

"Seriously," I began, "don't get caught. I'm tired of waiting for you two to get out of detention."

"Fine," they both agreed. "We'll see you at the Halloween Feast tonight, munchkin!" George assured me as they walked away.

"And quit punching me!"

"No promises, ginger giants!" I continued to walk to the hospital wing. I almost forgot the boy was still there. He was so quiet that I didn't realize he was here watching me have a fake row with the twins. I don't believe Fred and George noticed either.

As we kept walking the boy continued taking glances at me every few seconds. "Are you all right?" I asked.

"For a second there I thought you and the Weasley twins could've punched each other in the face."

I giggled at this. "We were just playing around," I explained. He nodded his head, understanding the unusual friendship that the twins and I had.

"Your name is Seamus, right?" I asked, making sure. Seamus nodded his head again. "Iris," I told him my name.

"Well I know that," he said. I looked at him with a confused expression.

"You do?" I inquired. "We've never talked before."

"Yeah, I know, it's- er- I like to pay attention to the attendance taking," Seamus answered shakily.

"I see."

After walking for fifteen minutes or so, we finally reached the hospital wing. We walked through the doors and stared at the room full of beds. Madam Pomfrey was working on something when she noticed us enter the room. When her eyes fell on Seamus, I saw a glint of disappointment in her eyes.

"Another explosion, wasn't it Mr. Finnigan?" she asked, hands on her hips. Seamus nodded in embarrassment. "Well then, sit down, boy. I'll check for injuries in a second." Madam Pomfrey looked over at me. "And what do you need Ms. Howard?"

"Oh, I was just sent by Professor Filtwick to guide Seamus to the hospital wing. I'll head back to class now."

"Well get going, then."

I nodded then headed for the door.

"Bye Iris," Seamus hollered from the bed he was sitting on.

I looked back at him, and he gave me a slight smile, to which I smiled back. Ever since that day... he and I still never talked.
