Weeks had passed and Seamus' eyebrows had finally grown back. Today was the day that Seamus and Dean have been looking forward to for quite some time now: Quidditch try outs.
These first weeks at Hogwarts, Harry would be having Quidditch try outs. I loved the sport very much, but I didn't try out seeing that it was a full house. I doubted Harry would be able to pay attention to everyone. Despite this, Seamus, Dean, Ginny, Ron, and Nigel still tried out. Neville, Luna, Hermione and I simply watched the Gryffindor students on their brooms, flying and throwing the quaffle into the tall goals. From the stands, I couldn't help but think that Seamus looked rather nice in his Quidditch uniform. I stared at him, a small smirk on my face forgetting everything around me. Neville had to snap his fingers in front of my face so I could return to reality.
Dean, Ginny, Seamus, and Nigel were hoping to get the chaser position. Ron tried out for keeper. Dean and Seamus flew very well, but Dean was just a bit better than Seamus. Ginny, however, triumphed the both of them. Ginny had lived in a house full of boys whose life revolved around the sport, of course she'd perfect every skill needed to play. Dean on the other hand lived in a family full of muggles. Quidditch wasn't something taught to him as a child like many of us here. Though, as time went on, he became an exceptional player.
Neville and I sat back, watching our friends practice as Luna skimmed columns of the magazine she was reading and listened in on our discussion about those trying out.
"Dean needs to step it up if he want's that chaser position. Katie and Ginny are out-flying him."
"He's doing just fine," Neville retorted.
"Wanna bet on it?" I asked.
Neville gave me a look, and turned his eyes back to Dean who had got the quaffle from a fifth year. He looked confident in Dean and returned to me. Without hesitation, Neville held out his hand, allowing me to shake it, and thus placing our bet.
"Alright, how much did you want to bet?" Neville asked.
"One galleon."
"Fine with me," he responded.
"Your bets?" I ask.
"Dean and Seamus. You?"
"Katie and Ginny."
Luna then chimed in, speaking in a soft tone. "Why aren't you betting on your boyfriend, Iris?"
"Well- er- Neville already did before I could," I lied.
In all honesty, Seamus wasn't the best chaser. He knew a lot about Quidditch, but he did better watching than playing. He would tend to let the quaffle slip out of his grasp and barely made it in time to catch it, not to mention the way he dived for the ball wasn't safe at all, causing me to hold my breath in hopes he wouldn't fall head first off of his broom.
To my left I could hear Hermione mumble something under her breath as I was discussing the bet with Neville.
"What'd you say, Hermione?" I asked full of wonder.
"Oh- er- it's uh, nothing," Hermione answered quickly. I shrugged my shoulders and paid no attention to it.
Listening to Hermione's answer caused me not to see Cormac McLaggen miss that last save near the Quidditch hoops. Cormac wasn't necessarily a gentleman. He was rude and vain and foolish; so full of everything he did or said. If I had a galleon for every time McLaggen did something idiotic or insensitive, I'd be richer than Malfoy's father.
