"Since the beginning of...of modern medicine...there has been an assumption that, regarding the state and forms of mortality. That being that death is an unavoidable event the inevitability of which we should take for granted I will show...show that today that life is not some...grace bestowed upon us by some outdated notion of-" Victor said all rather awkwardly while shifting from foot to foot, looking hesitantly up at those gathered, and running a hand through his hair. Him and crowds. Not a match made in heaven.
"Get on with it," Finnegan drawled from the side while banging his cane against the platform he was standing on. Beside him Mercy had moved away from leaning against the banister and looked fit to taking his cane from him and whacking him over the head with it.
Interrupting people was rude. Even if the person speaking was struggling, and pausing every so often to cough awkwardly and try and think of the right words to say.
"Ah, yes, of course," Victor said losing the awkwardness from his tone as he turned rather serious and a little disheartened that he had been cut off just as he was getting used to speaking; as well as getting to a rather poignant part of his speech. Behind him Igor was busying about making sure everything was set up and ready, he had been busying around more or less as soon as they came into the room though to give him credit.
The only time Igor paused was when he glanced up at Lorelei.
And the only real time Victor glanced up in a moment of loss was to get a reassuring nod from Mercy. It seemed that both of them were vices to the two women.
"I'm not accustomed to public speaking," Victor begrudgingly admitted lowly while turning and looking at Igor as he paused for a moment to look up at him for some sort of direction. Being giving an order he said a rather quiet: "Yes, Master," before shifting off to the side to do as he was asked while Victor turned back to the small group gathered. "Oh, ah...I would like to show you...show all eight of you-"
"Yes, come on, come on, I have a coach waiting." Was Finnegan's rather rude interruption as he turned to clicking his fingers instead. Seeing as how his other interruption got a glare, this one warranted Lorelei joining in glaring up at him too. If he was just going to stand here interrupt nearly ever five minutes, what was even the point of him being here?
"Ah..." Victor let out awkwardly while taking to removing certain pieces of material from the shrouded form before him. "I give to you life by my own creation." He said while each word he spoke he removed another piece of cloth.
Not many actually reacted to the sudden reveal. There were mutters of what sounded like disdain, but for the most part people seemed to look confused, yet shocked at the thing laying lifeless on the table.
Victor gauged the expressions being sent his way, well so far no one had shouted out in utter disapproval, so not all was completely lost surely?
Hearing footsteps he watched as someone turned and left the room – scratch that, there went one disapproved person. And as he left the whispers and mutters picked up. People leaned in close to share their opinions while for the most part others just continued to stare.
In Mercy and Lorelei's case, they exchanged a look before looking forwards again.
"Now, I have built this homunculus creature from various body parts," Victor explained rather proudly with a smile, though he was still receiving blank looks from his audience. "From the London Zoo, they've had a terrible time with the upkeep of their exotic animals...not for my benefit." Victor said with an awkward cough and a downcast expression as he picked at the table while simply explaining this. "He's mainly chimpanzee. But with the aid of my esteemed associate, Igor Strausman, we've managed to interlace multiple individuals from multiple species as a matter of fact. Igor, is it ready, they're staring at us." Victor said while wringing his hands and looking more and more awkward by the second. As if his awkwardness wasn't already obvious from first starting this whole speech thing?
