Using hand signals, Dopey was able to tell Anastasia that he would allow her to prick his finger so long as he could come with her to find her father. Anastasia reluctantly agreed; she didn't want the dwarf to get hurt.

So she pricked Dopey's finger using her knife and put four drop of blood in a tiny glass dwarf cup, which she attached to her belt. Then she saddled up Wilbert, bid Happy and Bashful farewell, and followed Dopey, who knew the woods as well as Anastasia knew the Queen's palace.

He led her to a grassy meadow filled with wildflowers and there, Anastasia tied Wilbert to yet another tree while the horse grazed hungrily on the flowers and grass.

Dopey then signaled for Anastasia to be quiet and the two of them waited for about ten minutes in an anxious silence until-

Two voices. Both eerily familiar, though it seemed strange that they should be talking to each other.

"That must be my father and the princess," Anastasia whispered to Dopey, who gave a simple nod and pulled his new friend back into the shadows.

Then they arrived, and Anastasia recognized them, but the girl she saw didn't look like a princess- she looked to Anastasia only as the girl she knew and loved.

Anastasia stifled a gasp and turned to Dopey in shock. "It's Snow White!" She whispered. "Snow's not a princess!"
Dopey shook his head in wonderment, and the two looked back at the scene, Anastasia clutching the dwarf cup. She dipped her finger inside and came up with a drop of Dopey's blood.

Snow White said something ridiculously innocent, just like always, and bent down to start picking wildflowers. Behind her, Anastasia's father raised a knife above the girl's (princess's?!) head.

Several things happened at once, all as if in seen in freeze frames. First, Snow White screamed, and then her father began to bring down the knife, but Anastasia stopped him by yelling, "NO!" And lunged for the two. Her father's arm stopped midair and he turned, the knife still moving. His mouth opened in shock, and in that half second, Anastasia put her bloodstained finger in his mouth and clamped it shut, forcing him to swallow it. But the knife was still moving.

And it stabbed the huntsman's daughter in the back.
