On the fifth day of living in Lohr am Main, Anastasia sang as she went to the well. Again, the animals swarmed her as she sang, and a pretty blue bird perched on her shoulder. Smiling as she sang a song Snow sang often about wishing wells, Anastasia slowly filled a bucket with water to drink.

And then something happened. The animals parted to let through a much larger creature- a deer.

Anastasia abruptly stopped her singing and turned away, refusing to look at the beast that had eaten her mother's carcass by the side of the river.

The deer, who was only a fawn, took a tentative step closer and nuzzled Anastasia's left hand.

Anastasia stared down at it, unable to move.

"No," she said finally, firmly. "No." She took the bucket and ran.

After a week and a half, Anastasia and the huntsman ran out of food.

Anastasia spent the afternoon on the eleventh day swallowing down her hunger weakly. The door opened in the afternoon, and Casper stepped inside. Anastasia glared at him, her face wan.

"Go away," she said. "You have no reason to be here."

"I do," Casper responded, his eyes warm. "You're out of money and out of food. And I have a way to get you some."

"How?" Anastasia said, sitting down expectantly.

Casper smiled and offered a friendly hand to Anastasia. "From my castle, I've heard you sing. You're amazing. And if it's true you know Snow White, you'll know the duet she used to sing with herself-"

"-about the wishing well," Anastasia responded. "We're desperate. I suppose anything will work."

Anastasia looked down at Casper's hand. With a nod back to her father, she took it, and the two ran out into the city square.
