CHAPTER FIVE: DETENTION, SNAPE AND DETENTION

**Tommy**

"Tommy, what are you doing. You're going to get us into trouble. " I said. We both had Transfiguration at that time and Tommy was passing letters to me. The first one said:

Hey, Heather Bear. You look like you're bored to death. Well, so am I.
I don't think we're going to be transfiguring anything today.

And the second one read:
Heather Bear, why aren't you replying ?
It isn't nice you know !!!

Fine. He wanted a reply ?

Tommy, send one more letter and I'll stuff it down your throat !! I can't concentrate with you sending stupid letters-
Professor McGonaggal snatched my letter out of my grasp.
"Writing letters now, are we ? Detention for the both of you..." She said crumpling the letter.
"Great. A bad name on the first day !" I hissed when she had gone away. "And it's all your fault !"
"Hey, none of this would've happened if you hadn't replied to my awesome letter !"
"You asked me to !" I whispered. He kept his mouth shut for the rest of the class after that.

After we were dismissed, Tommy and I went straight to the Gryffindor Common room, seeing that we both had a free period.
"So, what do we do now ?" Tommy asked, crashing on top of the maroon sofa.
"Im going to prepare for Potions." I said, ignoring Tommy, who was too busy smirking at me.
"Exactly like your sister, aren't you ?" He said.
"Don't say that !"
"Okay. Okay. I know how much you hate her."
"I don't hate her-"
"Well, I do !" Said a voice behind me. I wheeled around, only to find Hermione glaring at the both of us.
"What are you doing here ?" She asked.
"W-we have a free period..." I replied and Tommy nodded quickly.
"You have a free period now ?" She said. "Fine. I'll go spend MY free period somewhere else !" Hermione added, storming out of the common room.
"Boy, she scares me !" Tommy said.
"She scares everyone." I said before returning to my book. I was so sure that Professor Snape would question is about the first chapter in our Potions textbook. Maybe, I could earn some points for Gryffindor House !
"Don't get your hopes up..." Tommy sighed. I frowned at him, as if to say
' What are you talking about ?'
"I know you were thinking of our Potions lesson. You want to get Snape's 'approval' " Tommy said rolling his eyes at me.
"So what if I do ?"
"All I'm saying is, don't get your hopes up. He never likes students from Gryffindor..."
"We'll see. "

I regretted saying those words, ' We'll  see' because it was clear that Snape hated me.

"Great. Another Granger that I have to put up with !" He sneered. I took a step backwards and held my books closer to my chest. Professor Snape let us enter the dungeon which was the Potions classroom.
"Turn to page thirty-nine read silently. I will quiz you all once you're done."
"I didn't bother opening my textbook. I had already prepared myself during my free period. However, Snape didn't think so.
"Well. Well. Well." He said. "Looks like we have a lazy one over here. Think you're so smart just like your cousin eh? We'll see just how smart you are in detention !" He finished.
"But -".  He stopped to glare at me one more time before walking back to his desk.
I sank in my seat and pouted for a while. That is until I received a note from Tommy.

Nice job there, Heather Bear.
He really seems to like you a lot. Good luck becoming his favorite student of all time !
Wish you could've seen your face when he gave you detention, it was priceless !

I crumpled the note and threw it at his head, which ended up with him laughing his head off.  Two detentions in one day ? Cmon !
After Professor Snape had quizzed us, he finally became fond of someone, whom I'm afraid is not me !
"Very good Mr. Malfoy, brilliant just like Draco" Mr. Snape said. The blonde boy was sitting at the front of the class beamed at our teacher. Gideon Malfoy, the little brother of none other than the famous Draco Malfoy. Yuck, I hate him already !
"I want a one thousand word essay on the particular chapter ! I will of course collect them tomorrow. Whoever decides to hand me a blank piece of parchment will receive detention ..." Professor Snape bellowed. He motioned for us to get out and we did, gladly !
"Okay, so maybe I've gotten on the wrong foot with Snape, maybe he'll make me his favorite student in a while, once he sees how brilliant I am !" I whispered to Tommy on the way to the Green House outside the castle. We had Herbology next.
"You are unbelievable !" Tommy said shaking his head slightly.
