Chapter 6

We stayed there for almost twenty minutes. It was pin drop silence cause the thunder outside was enough for making noises. It was growing louder second per second. Finally I saw Serene whispering something,she was familiar with our house,so she easily found Jake so called secret place in the darkest part of storage.
"Serene??"" I asked
"Uhm, yeah ..
"What are you doin here?" Stealing his secret diary or recoding his secret language. Wait isn't it a good thing that his crush is checking out his secret place. Jake would be so happy if she did something like that, she ....
"Are you even listening Alice?"
Nope cause I was too busy in imagining you and Jake together.
"Hmm, yeah ... not exactly I was busy in my head." I murmured
"Jake told me about this just another day, he keeps his all research papers over here. "
And I thought it was diary or something.
"Here it is, but it's a diary not research papers." I pouted. She handed me that Brown colored two kilograms weighted diary.
Just kidding it was normally heavy piece of piled papers.
"It belongs to you. "
"I can't read it.. "Serene whispered.
"Oh Come on, Serene I bet it has some science shit, no offense."
She lowered her eyes, well I rolled mine.
Something beeped in her pocket. It was a satellite phone. She starred it.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Ummm .... nothing."
The phone beeped again.
She muttered something probably cursing the caller .
"Who's this? " she sounded nervous
"Okay."
"I'll be there."
"Yeah, I'm safe."
"Yes, sure."
"Don't worry."
"I'll see."
"Okay, good night Sir."
Last sentence was her longest consist four words.
"So, who was that." I tossed Jake's papers back to its original place and landed myself to a dusty couch.
"Head of our project. Mr. I'm always rude not matter how good you behave."
I chuckled and she burst into laughter.
"Hey listen, one of our colleague is coming, do have any problem? I know you don't."
I opened my mouth but she answered the question herself, so I keep it shut.
"Do you like Jake?" I murmured
"Sorry. "She made a question mark face.
"You and Jake were good friends."Right.
She nodded.
"Did he told you something ?" Tell me you love him too Serene
"Something... like what?"
Oh girl why can't you understand a simple situation.
"Like about me." I breathed out.
I changed the whole situation before she complicates it.
"About your work or your boss?" Worst question ever Alice.
She chuckled.
"We don't have boss thing in research work. We have seniors and juniors.
We have equal work, just in different categories. With all our specialty we make a team ...so no boss no employee." She grinned,seems so proud of herself.
Of course Jake fall for her, she has perfect blue eyes, blonde hairs a pretty good figure, her accent was thick Australian wow I like that and I actually never noticed that.
Damn! looks like only I'm stuck with black eyes, though I like them but blue colored eyes always steal my attention like ...like Steve.
"Okay Alice stop staring me for God's sake."She yelled
"Oh fuck sorry ... I really didn't mean to stare your perfect blue eyes." I split it out.
"Are you sure you are not lesbian ? Cause Jake never...." she continued laughing.
"Jesus Christ Serene are you crazy.... I just love blue eyes is it not normal." A folded my arms on my chest in defence.
"I'm 100 and 10% sure I'm straight. And don't you dare to put a question mark on that." I breathed it out.
"Okay okay chill out. "She grinned.
I pushed myself on the dad's old ottoman.
Her phone beeped, and she signs and murmured something.
"Well I think he's here, I'm going upstairs okay are you all right in here ?" She raised her brow.
"Yeah, I'm grown up" and I rolled my eyes well only mentally.
She cracked through the door, and run towards kitchen I can hear her footsteps. It was three a.m. in morning, and I stared at the small frame hanging from the wall. I was there with mom and dad, with Jake's family well ...he wasn't my brother at that time. I was on my father's lap playing with his watch smart me a unconscious smile floated my lips. Jake was standing just in front of her mother, with Catherine holding hands. Catherine was wearing white skirt with frills and white laced top, she looked so beautiful without those scary tattoos she put on later. I felt so disappointed, I put my fingertips on her face. She was like an angel, symbol of purity that's the reason Jake was holding her hand. Can't disapprove I felt a bit of jealousy but ghastly fire accident suddenly came to my mind. And within a fiction of second, her burned dead body flashed through my nerve, her faced all burned from left side. My heartbeat raced against my breath and blood beneath my skin started to sprint.I withdraw my hand and take a few steps back with a rush until I hit something hard or someone?
"I've got you alley."
Jake Jake is that you? Just say yes. The voice was different but only he used to call me alley apart from ...... Steve??
I recovered from my mental conversation and I felt his hands on my shoulder. He take a step forward so close, in reply a tilted my head backward lying it on his chest.
"Is Jake okay?" I asked knowing the answer.
He signs drops his hand from my shoulder.
"The RADAR is broken we have absolutely no information alley. I'm sorry." He breathed out heavily.
"What's going on in here...?" Serene yelled from the stairs.
"Ummm , all right here."
Then he moved away and talked to Serene.
I shifted my face away from their conversation, and sit on same old ottoman.
"Is she okay?" Serene whispered with concern.
" Yeah, well sort of maybe. Just missing Jake."He murmured back.
"Really nice answer." She smirked
"I'm alright guys." I jumped in their small talk.
"What now will be struck here forever?" I have to talk to Jake.
"So, what now?" I asked.
"I'll call the senior." Serene said
"Yeah, generally RADAR fixation takes too much time. We have to wait...a lot." Steve called
"So, what the hell we're waiting for call him Serene".
She took the satellite phone and walked away.
"Dr. Hardwick, Serene here."
