Chapter Four- I Can't

Katniss POV

It takes me about 10 seconds until I realise what's happening and I shouldn't but I start to kiss back. I wrap my arms around Peeta's neck and move over so I'm straddling him. I feel his hands running up and down my back, eventually resting under my bum, he moans into my mouth. Peeta moves his hands up to my hair and removes his mouth from my lips and starts kissing my neck, making me moan. He takes the kisses down to my collarbone and starts taking my top off. Just then there's a knock at the door, "Peeta? Katniss?" Delly. She wasn't mean to be back yet.

We pull away and it dawns on me what we've done. I pull my top down and quickly stand off Peeta as Delly knocks at the door again. I start to panic and Peeta comes over to me, resting his hands on my hips, "Katniss, look at me" he says and I look up into his eyes. He moves his hand up to stroke my cheek but I jerk back. "Katniss calm down, Delly won't know what happened if we don't tell her, okay?" Peeta says to me. I nod. He gives me a reassuring smile and goes to open the door.

Peeta opens he door and Delly runs into his arms, "Are you okay? You usually answer the door straight away, I was waiting there for 5 minutes!" She says quickly.

"Yeah I was just out in the back garden helping Katniss" he quickly replies and I look down. I'm an obvious liar.

"But I checked the back and I didn't see you?"

"We must've been round the side then"

"Oh okay" Delly replies with a smile. " I just came to drop of these," she hands Peeta a basket of food, "before I went home, changed, and then I'm going to meet a friend for dinner, I'll see you both in about an hour, okay?"

"Sure, I'll see you then" Peeta says and gives his a short kiss on the lips, making my heart clench. And with that he shuts the door.

"Peeta" I start, "What was.. Um.. That?" I ask him, he looks down, thinking about an answer but I answer instead, "Actually you know what that was nothing, it was two people, overwhelming emotions, it meant nothing" I mumble the last part because in fact, that meant everything to me"

Peeta looks up at this and begins to walk closer to me, causing me to walk back until I'm stopped by the wall. "Really it meant nothing" he asks me, with something I can't detect in his voice. I nod. He comes over to me and rests his hand on my waist. It starts travelling to my back and Peeta pushes me forward so I'm chest to chest with him.

"It meant something to me"

I try to back away I really do but it feels right. I put my lips about a inch from his and whisper, "Delly?"

He frowns and I continue, "If it really meant something to you, break up with her" I challenge him.

At this Peeta backs away, tears threatening, "I'm sorry Katniss, I can't." And with that he walks about the door.
