Ivie

Angel and I laughed even more as we watched Olivia walk out of the kitchen. "You should probably explain to her that we didn't have sex last night." I laughed again.

"Well, if she wasn't such a heavy sleeper she would have felt me climb in the bed with her last night, she would have noticed me getting out of bed this morning. She might have even heard you take your shower."

"If you had warned me last night that she was here, she wouldn't have walked in on me naked."

"Well, if you would have noticed that her hair was black and not red, you wouldn't have tried to grope her while naked!"

"Okay, okay. You win. That was a dumb of me." He leaned over and gently pressed his lips to mine. It was no more than an almost-kiss but it still left me feeling breathless. We broke off, our foreheads resting against each other.

"I better go explain things to my sister."

He nodded as I stood up. I watched him pick up the donut that was still holding the carrot. He chuckled to himself and removed the carrot, taking a giant bite out of the donut. "I'm gonna finish eating and clean up before I head out."

"You're working today?"

"No, Ant was coming over again today." He didn't even try to meet my gaze.

"Are you going to say anything to him?"

"I might." He took another bite of the donut.

"Please don't, Angel. I don't want you fighting him." I grabbed his hand and made him stand up.

"Ivie." He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "He hit you! And if that wasn't bad enough, he hit you like you were a man, like he even had a reason to hit you in the first place. That's not something I can just let him get away with!"

"Please,  Angel. For me? I don't want you having Ant as an enemy, it's really not something you want. I've seen what he can do in a simple fit of rage!" I kissed him gently, barely even touching my lips to his. "He won't do it again, he was mad. Ant's not stupid, he'd never hit me again. Never." I was trying to reassure Angel, but I barely believed myself. If pushed far enough, Anthony would probably do a lot more than just hit me.

I shuddered at the thought and cringed, hoping Angel wouldn't see right through me to the core of my uncertainty. He was already stepping past a dangerous line with this thing going on between us - whatever it was. If he tried to start anything, there was no doubt in my mind that Ant would kill Angel.

"You're strong, I know this. You're brave too, but you have no idea what I've seen - what he's capable of."

"There is a lot you don't know about me, Ivie. I'm not as innocent as I seem." And with that, he kissed my forehead and pulled away, popping the last of his donut in his mouth as he grabbed his bag.

That last comment of his left me stunned as he went over to the kitchen entryway and stopped at the doorframe. "I'll talk to you later, and please, stay out of trouble."
