Chapter 6

Amelie stared at the young man in disbelief, thinking immediately that he was speaking on the phone with the Ian she knew, but then shook the thought away. The fact that he pronounced his name didn't mean it was him on the other line.

She listened once more to what he spoke on the phone. Apparently his friend was coming to the workshop to give her a ride to Seattle.

He hanged the phone after saying "Thank you" and smiled at her.

"I didn't catch your name" he said while turning to the car and bending down to the lower part of it.

"It's Amelie" she said suddenly nervous of giving out her last name. She had felt so comfortable with him before she agreed to take the ride; he seemed like a good guy. After all, a stranger would take her in his car to Seattle, the worst case scenarios started filling her mind.

"I'm Alan, so nice to meet you" he said getting below the car in a little skateboard.

She forced a small giggle; a fake smile wouldn't be enough since he wasn't looking at her. After a short but uncomfortable silence he asked why she was driving alone so far away from her home.

"If you don't mind telling, of course" he said, not actually giving her much of a choice, but she didn't mind sharing, it would distract her a little from her thoughts.

"No, of course not..." She started "I live with a friend in Seattle, we both go to the University of Washington, but we got into a fight today and I... was trying to run away from home" she said starting to get a little embarrassed.

He was actually quite surprised she told him that, it seemed personal and they didn't know each other that well. He pushed himself out of below the car to look at her.

"Hey it's alright, it happens to all of us" he stood up to face her, he thought it feel weird for her sharing that with him still below the car.

She looked at herself in the reflection of the car and chuckled a little.

"I hope that explains why I'm in a pajama top" she said frowning in embarrassment but still smiling.

"No, it actually doesn't" he said chuckling. "You seem really familiar, I feel like I've seen you before" he said trying to read her face.

"Then you must watch a lot of porn" she faking a serious face. His eyes were wide and nonplussed. Then she laughed, and relief covered his look.

He chuckled shaking his head a little, "You got me there" he said still amused.

"Is that Amelie Jones?" said a very familiar voice mixed with the little bell on a door signaling someone was coming in.

Alan immediately looked at the door with a small smile.

She closed her eyes disappointed, exhaled, and turned around to face Ian Collins.

"Hey baby I didn't know it was you who needed a ride"

What were the chances of meeting him in a random town, and that he would be a friend of Alan? That was definitely bad luck.

Alan looked confused but then a flash of clarity filled his expression.

"Amelie as in Millie Jones?!" he spoke suddenly amazed

His former confusion was sent to Amelie's face.

"Yes, the same one" said Ian with a smirk. "So you aren't making points with my ex are you?" said Ian making a half-annoyed, half-joking face, making Alan laugh.
