After Fallout

Chapter 4

Upon entering Life's Hope Cassy and I were dumbfounded it looked untouched, it looked as though the nukes never fell it even had green grass, I slapped Cassy and which made her slap me I responded by pointing out we weren't asleep she muffled a laugh while rubbing her cheek. Cassy and I went up to the first person we saw and asked where to find the man in charge, he pointed to a building a few blocks down and Cassy and I headed up the street. When we entered the building we went looking for some authority figure to ask about my father we found a guy named Jeb who says my dad visited him, he told him he didn't know where an APA would be if one still existed I asked where he went he said my father told him he needed to locate one immediately and left without saying his next destination. Frustrated Cassy and I took off we went to the supply store to look and think we saw a bunch of weapons and ammunition as well as various junk, I made a deal with the merchant if I could make a weapon out of the junk she had she give us each a gun with ammo in exchange for the weapon and the design and she agreed. So I took her tubs of junk and dumped them on a workbench using some tools and resources of hers (including paper to make the blueprint) I through together a rifle that fires rocks at high velocity causing puncture marks on car doors, as agreed she took the rifle and blueprint and gave us two automatic rifles with two clips each and we left. It felt too easy like we were too lucky, at least now we had a better way of defending ourselves than sticks and stones I thought but it felt off like something was wrong. I told Cassy to wait there for me I needed to do something, she nodded and I went back to the store. I talked to the woman again and asked why she accepted my deal she shrugged and said she had a feeling she admitted she thought I was cute and that prob-There was an explosion that nocked me off my feet...
Cassy's pov.
"I am sick of this I'll never tell her I just cant " I said, I sat down I have been arguing with my mind all day Sarah and I just made it to life's hope looking for her dad I knew he was dead but I didn't want her to feel bad so I didn't say anything. Sarah slapped me to get me to slap her back to see if she was asleep. We walked up to a guy and asked for directions but I was zoned out so I let Sarah do the tracking I had faith in her. We met a man named Jeb he had no info on Sarah's dad he left without leaving any clue where to look, Sarah decided to look at the wares of the local store I didn't mind. She made a deal with the merchant and it felt to easy she held up her end of the deal and the merchant held hers, after we left the store Sarah stopped me and said she needed to do something so I did. While she was in the store I saw something in the sky it looked like a light but red and moving fast then I noticed more, I knew what I was watching I saw it before in the vault on film. I ran up the stairs and the explosion forced me to fall against Sarah pushing us to the ground, she rolled over and saw me and my face went numb I always had a crush on her but she could never be mine. She asked what happened I realized that our hearing was a little iffy on account of the bombs, I shouted for her to hear I said, "HOLY SHIT WE WERE NUKED AGAIN" she must not have heard because she looked confused but not freaked out.
Sarah's pov.
I couldn't hear anything but ringing and I had Cassy on me screaming something to me, all I could do was stare ant try to read her lips but I couldn't so I gave up. Cassy got up and offered me a hand I took it and looked around I saw the shelves and tubs were everywhere and I saw the merchant on the ground I pointed at her indicating we needed to help her. Cassy nodded and went to check on her she put her fingers against her neck checking for a pulse she nodded again I let out a sigh of relief I saw her do the same, Cassy put the girls arms around her shoulder I did the same. We carried her out of the shop and saw a devastating site as life's hope lay in ruin I looked up and saw in the distance a large mushroom cloud I pieced some of it together I stopped and used my pipboy to sent a message to Cassy i hit dials and switches looking for her name for messaging then I saw her name Cassidy Alex Kane, I hit in my message and hit send I asked who nuked us she shrugged I typed again asking what we should do I went to hit send but my ears popped loudly. Cassy asked if I was OK I realized I could hear again so I said yes I picked the merchant back up and hollered over all the chaos and asked what we should do now, she asked if I heard that ping I shook my head but then I heard it too she looked at me and said "what about that time" I nodded.
