After Fallout

Chapter 5

I listened for the ping again there it was we followed it to a collapsed building I set the girl down and looked through the rubble for the source of the sound I dug until I found it. It was Jeb he was pinned under some metal supports Cassy and I dug under his legs with pipes creating a small trench he could slide his leg through. After we got him out he was fine he was dirty but fine I had him help Cassy carry the girl, I checked my pipboy for other indicators of shelter the bombs didn't hit using the terrain scanner I installed on everyone's pipboys in the vault before everything went down. My scanner indicated a large cave in the north west I figured we could get survivors to there for safety I asked Jeb if he could take the girl and Cassy to the cave and keep them safe, but as I figured Cassy wouldn't leave so I wrote down the locating on a map I had "found" in the shop after being knocked down I handed it to him and told him to wait there for us he nodded and left. I looked to Cassy and said we need to find survivors and she took of she was searching one side of the city and I the other, I called out for people and was looking everywhere till I heard a groan from one of the destroyed cars. I ran over and called out a man answered he was trapped under the car I looked around and found him his leg looked broken I tried to lift the car but it was to heavy, I asked if he knew where more survivors were he said he thought he heard someone over in the building near by but he passed out. I went to look in the building but he grabbed my leg and said, "don't leave me please" I said I wouldn't be long and I needed help to lift the car. I told the man to lay down and relax to slow his blood flow so he didn't bleed out and I took my jacket of and rolled it into a pillow for him, I ran to the door of the building but it was inaccessible due to rubble but I saw a window it was a little high but I thought I could get to it. I climbed up on top of some rubble and jumped for the windowsill thankful there was no glad in it, I climbed up the wall and looked in it was very dark inside. I positioned myself in the window and turned my pipboy light on but as I did there was a crash and I slipped and fell in, I landed on a piece of glass the size of my hand and it went right into my leg.
Cassy's pov.
I was looking for people like Sarah said when I found a girl named Joy she was digging someone out of a pile of rubble she hollered for a hand so I went to help I pulled the pipes aside which were holding the pile of rock in place and they slid over. I helped joy pull the mane to his feet he couldn't walk on his own so joy had to carry him, I looked at my map on my pipboy and saw the cave Sarah sent Jeb to with that merchant was along an old highway. I told joy to take the old highway about halfway and go east till she finds a large cave where Jeb will help her there, she nodded and they left. I heard a crash and a scream I recognized I started running toward Sarah side of town the cry was getting closer, I looked around till I saw a man caught under a car he had Sarah's jacket under his head. I woke the man and asked where Sarah was he said he told her about people trapped in that building he said while pointing I said to rest a little more I would be back, I ran toward the building I saw the way was blocked but there was a window. I could see it was dark inside so I turned my light on I was about to jump when the man hollered to me he said that was how Sarah got hurt then he passed out, I needed to hurry or he would die. I jumped up and climbed in I saw glass and blood but no Sarah I got worried, I hopped down and landed on some glass I saw a trail of blood. I called for Sarah no answer I followed the trail with my rifle in hand I feared the worst, I turned a corner and saw a man dragging Sarah. I ran out where he could see me and aimed my gun at him, I told him to let Sarah go he said he was helping her but I didn't believe him he had Sarah's things over his shoulders...
Sarah's pov.
I felt the glass in my leg before I saw it causing pain more than before I saw it looking was a mistake, I was screaming in pain till I heard footsteps echoing and getting louder, I looked for my rifle but I was getting woozy I reached for my gun and a hand picked it up but I lost consciousness. I was walking through the vault corridors looking for everyone I ran to my dad's room, Sam and Noah's room, Cassy's room, then to the schoolroom, and the cafeteria, finally I tried the bathrooms nobody to be seen. I went to the overseers office to tell him everyone was gone but there everybody was tied up in his office, I ran to help them but the guards grabbed me and tied me up along side them. The guards had guns aimed at everyone I promised them I would save them but the guards shot one at a time I saw the first one was Cassy. She looked into my eyes and the gun fired "CASSIDY!!" I screamed, I dropped my head and headed the other gunshots I was sobbing uncontrollably till I head Cassy's voice saying I'd be OK I said "I'm sorry" she asked what for. I said I couldn't save her she said she was OK I felt her arms around me and I opened my eyes and saw my surroundings, I saw a man against the wall, my things setting by him, and Cassy sitting in front of me with a needle in her hand. I felt the pain in my leg but didn't feel any glass in it anymore I assumed Cassy pulled it out but she said it was Darrel pointing to the man, I asked why she had the needle said it was to flush the radiation out of the wound that Darrel gave it to her that he saved my life then she wiped tears from my face that I forgot were there. I asked Darrel if he was the only one trapped in the building that the crash was a cave in and his family were killed Cassy and I offered our condolences knowing they wouldn't help, I asked Darrel if he wanted to get outta there he nodded but he said the cave in was from them trying to dig themselves out now there was no way out. I said we could go out the window but he said it was to high up, I suggested we make a human ladder he smiled as the thought ran through his mind. Cassy and I started toward the window and Darrel followed us.
