Vonnie Tyler

"Vonnie! What was that?" Jodi exploded with the question as soon as Harry dropped the curtain behind me. I'd almost expected him to follow, but he didn't. I sat on the couch with the girls. "I don't know. Is that the guy you wanted me to meet?" I reached for a soda out of the mini fridge next to the soft velvet couch. Jolee rolled her eyes in annoyance. I opened my can of Root Beer kind of harshly and it exploded in my face. "Oh my god, Von, you are so dim." She grunted.

"And you're a bitch, Jolee!" I yelled after I'd wiped the soda foam off of me. I'd had about enough of her bullshit. Jodi's eyes widened. "Vonnie..." Jodi warned.

"What was that?" Jolee asked with her eyes narrowed. "I said that you are a bitch! Not once this whole day have you treated me even a little nice. I've bent over backwards to make you and Jodi happy. And for what? To still be treated like crap? Screw you! I'm sorry, Jodi, I need to leave." I threw my open and fizzing soda can onto Jolee's crappy looking shirt and yanked the curtain open and started walking, not caring where I was going. I went up some more stairs and turned to the left and shoved the door open before looking where I was going.

"Do you need something, Elle? Usually I prefer if people knock but I don't mind allowances." His eyebrow was raised and he looked very amused, until he saw my face, then, he looked concerned. "Elle?" I smoothed my skirt down. "Are you okay?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "I think so."

"Well come sit down. You are more than welcome to stay here with me as long as you like." He didn't say it in a creepy way, he was very sincere, but I knew better than to trust strangers. "I'll sit in here with you but I won't leave the perimeter with you." I stated.

"You believe strongly in 'Stranger Danger' don't you?" He asked looking amused. "I believe in keeping myself safe." I fidgeted in my chair. "So my dad doesn't have to suffer another loss." I looked down at my scuffed up converse. "He's been through enough."

"Do you want to talk about it?" The idea of telling a total stranger my life story wasn't exactly on my top ten things to do today, but I'd already done it technically, when I talked to Jodi. My phone chimed from my skirt pocket. I pulled it out and read the text from Kail.

I hope you die like your pathetic mother.

Ouch. How blind had I really been to Kail? He's never acted like this before, maybe this is really how much influence Cassandra has had on him, or I never really knew him. I deleted the text, and his number from my phone and slipped it back in my pocket. I felt the instant loss of the only friend I'd had when my mom passed, but maybe this is the first step to picking myself back up instead of letting other people do it for me. "Is that your boyfriend?" Harry asked curiously.

"Wouldn't you like to know." I said sarcastically.

"That's why I asked the question. Which you never answered my last one either." I'd only really talked about my mom to Kail.

I still sometimes have dreams that I'm in the car with her during the crash. That I was in the backseat and she was talking to me for the last time. I could smell her perfume and hear her laugh ringing out and echoing in the confines of the car. Then I can see the semi driver swerving at the car. Then everything is silent. I can't hear the metal crashing or the windows shattering, not even my mother's terrified screams as she's ejected out of the car. I could only hear my screams.

That's usually when my dad wakes me up.

"No, he's not my boyfriend. He was my best friend before a walking vagina came into his life." I don't think I've ever been so blunt in my life. Harry seemed to think it was funny. "A walking vagina? What does that even mean?" He couldn't contain his laughter, "Come on, talk to me, I have nothing but time."
