"He said two minutes and it's been two hours!" I yelled to Jodi from the bar. I asked the bartender to get me a soda while Jodi was sipping her tea. "This is a new club, you know, there are a lot of things he needs to make sure are working properly. He's so not ditching you." She told me. We sat in silence for a few minutes.
"You want to go back up to the lounge?" I yelled over the music. She nodded her head and we held arms to try and get up the stairs safely as people were stupidly shuffling down the stairs towards the dance floor, not watching what they were doing. Once we were on the second floor a waiter crashed into me without looking where he was going, he had empty drink cups and they shattered around my feet while some sprinklings of sticky drinks got in my hair and all over my top.
"You're gonna have to pay for that!" The waiter screamed at me. "Watch where you're going next time! I'm gonna need a name and a cellphone number." He demanded. I laughed.
"You want my name and cellphone number for your boss, Mr. Styles?" I said with a wide smile. "Yeah, listen, I don't have time to deal with your intellectual limitations, I won't say it again." I could see the thin ear bud in his ear and the mic connected to his tie. "Is this how to talk to your boss man? Tell him to come and get me in VIP room three, before I get away."
I proceeded with Jodi towards the stairs to the third floor when the waiter called out to me, "I'm gonna call the bouncer." I dropped Jodi's arm and twirled around to face him, "Tell Grant I said hi." I winked at him and turned towards the stairs and didn't listen to the empty threats that followed me up those steps.
"Vonnie, where did that come from?" Jodi looked at me like I was Jesus rising. "I don't know I opened my mouth and it just kept talking." We both laughed together for a minute. "God, I feel so free." I shouted to the ceiling. Jodi laughed and hugged me tight, "I'm so glad we became friends. I feel like I pulled you out of the dark."
"You did and I'm glad for it." I hugged her back.
"So do you like him?" She asked as we sat down on the velvet couch. "Hang on," I said as I pressed the intercom button. "This is the bar," the bartender answered quickly. I pressed the talk button again, "Can I get two lemonades up in VIP Room three?" I let go of the button and the bartender said a waiter would bring them up.
"I totally like him!" I screamed when I looked back at Jodi. She hugged me again and screamed with me in that girly way. We even did that weird hand-hug. "Okay, so what's the plan?" She asked completely serious now. I looked confused. "What plan?"
"Well, it's obvious that he likes you so what's the plan to seal the deal for that date?" I tried to think of what girld do. "Bake?" Jodi face-palmed herself. "Hello, the '50s called and they want their custom back. No, you maybe flutter your eye lashes or do a hair flip over the shoulder really easy breezy. Here, I'll show you." She grabbed my hands and dragged me to the middle of the spotless white carpet and she showed me a discreet way to flip the hair over the shoulder without making it obvious that it's a move. I tried it and I felt artificial and uneasy.
So instead I tried the eyelash flutter after she demonstrated, "Use the eye lashes, they're perfect." We walked back to the couch and we both checked our phones, I had a text from Kail's number, even though I'd deleted it I knew it was his. the other one was from Cassandra. I opened the one from Kail first.
Look, you can't just drop me after everything I've done for you. That makes you a terrible friend.
"Jodi can you selfie with me real quick?" She fixed her hair and checked her make up. "Yes!" She scooted closer to me and we both did our best cute faces and I snapped the picture. "You totally need to send that to me for my Facebook and Twitter." She said with a slight squeal.
I put the picture in with a text that said, This is what a real friend looks like, weird how it looks nothing like you. and I clicked send. I went to my settings and blocked his number.
I also sent the picture to Jodi so she could post it on her social media. Then I opened the one from Cassandra.
Don't think that this changes anything, I will still get you.
I rolled my eyes and blocked her number too.
I could hear foot steps from the other side of the curtain, then the curtain was opened by Mr. Styles himself.
"Did that waiter tattle on me?" I said with a slight pout and a flutter of my eye lashes. "Yes, and lucky for you we have security cameras to prove that he was at fault." He said with a false stern tone, I could tell that he was going weak at the knees.
"Elle, listen, I like you a lot." His eyes were intense with feeling it almost made me faint. "I-I like you too." I stuttered. I tried to cover it with, another eyelash flutter. "Is there something in your eye?" He looked at me concerned.
"No, I'm fine. But you were saying?" I steered the conversation away from me. I struggled to make eye contact with him."I would like you to go on a date with me?" He asked, I wasn't sure if it was a question or a statement.
"Are you asking or telling?" I asked trying my hand at flirtation again. he got a mischevious look in his green eyes.
"Oh, I'm telling."
