Chapter six

The medication proved to calm Keaton down, but you could still see the sadness in his eyes. Each time I looked into his eyes, all I saw was sadness.

"Keaton, you've made a lot of money from selling your sweets at my work, you have enough money to start decorating the building. We could do that tomorrow. It would be Saturday, besides, you haven't left the house in a long time."

Keaton lays across from me on the bed with his arm reached over, playing with my hair. "I want too. Linda's father also told me we might want to replace the ovens. He says they're old and unreliable."

Wrapping my arm around his waist, I pull him to me. "I can help pay if you need me to."

Keaton smiles but wrinkles his nose. "You know, I still haven't paid rent, not once."

I pinch his cheeks. "You don't have you pay rent. Your rent is me."

Keaton blushes.

Realization dawns on me and I blush. "No, wait, I, um. You just don't have to pay rent. Focus on the bakery."

Keaton smiles shyly. "Alexander?"

"Hmm?"

Keaton quickly presses his lips to mine before pulling away and pushing his face into my chest.

Warmth spread through my lips, but faded as quickly.

"Keaton!"

He looked up and smiled. "Go to bed." Tucking his face back into my chest, I felt his breathing relax.

Ugh.

~~~~~
Memories of Keaton's kiss float through my dreams, and even now in Home Depot.
Keaton teases me as he looks at paint cards, picking one up, standing close to me and asking 'if I like it'.
I do.
Finally finding colors he like he skips to me and holds them out. "I think this is what I want."
Looking down, the small slips of paper he's pointing too are a baby blue and a light pink.
"How cute could It be if we blended them together? Sort of cloud like. Like the Katy perry picture where she's naked on a cloud. Have clouds all around the room and I want light pink tiles for the floors and a baby counter that people can sit at. I also want baby blue tables in the shapes of circles but the top of the table is pink!" Keaton excitedly chatters on bouncing around.
"Lets start with the paint. For what you want, were going to have to hire painters."
"No we won't! Linda is wonderful at painting! I bet she would do it!" Keaton holds his hand out eagerly. "Can I see your cellphone?"
I hand him my IPhone and watch him unlock it before finding Linda's number and pressing call. After a quick chatter he squeals. After he says good bye he tucks it back into my pocket grinning. "Linda said she would do it today! But we need a type of paint I can't remember, she's going to text it to you. It's bold enough to cover up the already red walls."
My phone dings and I follow Keaton to the counter getting the gallon buckets. My phone dings again.
"Get four gallons of each color!"
Four? Really? Gezz.
I tell the paint guy this and wait. Keaton turns to me grinning, for the first time in weeks, he looks truly happy.
"Here's your paint."
I watch as Keaton struggles to get all eight gallons Into the cart and push it. "Keaton, let me push it."
