Chapter seven.
"No!" Keaton giggles.
"But orange could go with the pink and blue!" I playfully argue. Though I know it would look ugly.
"I want pink stone tiles!" Keaton argues.
"Fine fine!"
He huffs as he lifts one of the very heavy tiles.
I turn to the Home Depot worker and tell him how many we need and that we need them installed. He nods excited for the extra money.
We meet him at the restaurant and watch him put the stones down. He works for two hours before they meet up the the hard wood floor leading to the back kitchen.
Keaton pays the man and shuts the restaurants door. "Look at it! Oh my god."
I stare as the sun starts to set in the restaurant, it glows on the pink and blue walls making It seem so real and beautiful. Keaton makes his way over to me and takes my hand to pull me from the counter and wrap his arms around my neck. "Lets go on a date." Keaton grins.
"A date? Where to?" I brush his over grown hair behind his ear and pull him close.
"I never go out. I don't know what's any good."
"How about we go someplace, order food, and go home to eat it?" I stroke his sides but he just smiles.
"No. I want a date." He Grins and dances away from me to go to the long window of the bakery and pull down the blinds.
Darkness falls on the room, the only lights coming from the slips between the blinds. "We need to get the water and electricity turned back on." Keaton sighs.
"I can do it tomorrow on my way home." I offer.
"I'd like that, I'll probably be here with Linda tomorrow painting the counters and the doors leading to the kitchen." Keaton takes my hand and leads us out of the building locking it behind him.
"As long as Linda is with you." I wrap my arm around his waist as we walk to the car.
"You can't protect me all the time." Keaton says.
"Why? Does it bother you? I just-"
Keaton cuts me off. "No! I love it! I don't mind at all. I'm just saying that you can't always have someone to babysit me."
"So why is Linda taking the day off to help you with something you know how to do? You like having someone watch you don't you?"
Keaton blushes. "I do. It makes me feel safe. Especially someone who can handle a gun like you, Kyle or Linda."
"You don't know how to shoot a gun? I can teach you!" I'd love some more bonding time.
"Sure. I guess I need to learn how to use a gun if I need to protect you."
Protect me?"me?"
"That killer you're chasing. He goes after men with hazel eyes. Ally, you have hazel eyes. It worries me to shits!" Worry seeps into Keaton's eyes and I smile.
"Baby, he has sex with them before he kills them, I wouldn't sleep with anyone but you." I tell him.
My phone suddenly rings, it's work. Keaton and I have grown to it by heart.
Keaton motions for me to answer.
"Hello?"
"Alexander? There's been another murder. It's fresh. Like, body still warm fresh, within the hour. But there's a note. It's addressed to you. We would like you to come in, bring Keaton." My boss hangs up.
